My membership expires in 4 days and I am weighing whether or not to remain a member (read: looking for encouragement to stay). :)

After one year, I really thought I would have a higher average and would at least place in a challenge.

I am continuously learning and do spend a lot of time reading the suggestions and advice that is being offered. Of course, I am leaning towards continuing with DPC, but validation would help. ;)

Thanks

If you really want to improve your signal to noise ratio, this is where to do it :-)

Well, have the benefits you have received been worth 5-7 lattes? I've thought that some of your entries show real promise (David told you I liked your Scales shot). It's ultimately up to you how much to participate. You can probably get valuable help without having DPC dominate your life. That is probably still worth $25.

I say let it ride. If you really want to learn, get on a DPL team when the next season comes out and force yourself to enter 1-2 entries for the whole season. That sort of effort will likely produce a step-up in results. Another possibility is to join one of the 30-day challenges where you take a picture a day along some genre or topic. That is likely to help as well.

stay. If you feel good about being here, and you feel you're getting something out of it, (even if its not a ribbon or a high score) then stay. I have never won a ribbon and I've been here ages. (I also don't enter as much as I should) but I still feel the site is valuable to my photography.

Tommy- I say stay. As others have stated before me it's the best 25 bucks you can spend a year for unlimited feedback and learning that I've ever seen.

Also, you do have a VERY nice front profile page, just keep shooting, learning, and submitting, the placements will come.

And yes, you might even beat the almighty Doc in a challenge or two!

:D

It is not hurting you to stay. I would just stay. I recently just renewed mine. You do have a nice profile page.

I say stay...took me a couple years to get a ribbon, but that in itself is not the ultimate reason to stay here nor the reason I stay. Like has been said over and over, this is an very valuble place, not only for photography subjects, but also for a plethora of other subjects no matter what it might be. This place has evolved, at least in my opinion, from a place to showcase your photos and get advise, to a community out reach of support when you need it. The people here are an amazing close knit bunch of nut jobs, but some of the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure to know...

Just my two cents worth

Michael

Heck, you stay! Unless dpc obsession is ruining your life. Anyone who can do this will be sorely missed by me.

Stay or I'll have to update my list if DPCers I've met. I don't want to do that. ;-)

Where else can you go to get abuse like this for $25.00 per year? I used to pay much more for people to tell me my pictures suck. It's a good value.

If you feel like you are still learning from the site then stay, if not then don't. Scores don't reflect who you are as a photographer. If you are still learning and think your growing as a photographer then 25 bucks is a damn good bargain.

Stay! If it makes you feel any better, your average is higher than mine :) See, people do care :) :)

Your score is also better than mine, and it only cost 7 cents a day to get all this great information on this website and have the privileges that it offers. I mean what are you going to do with the extra 7 cents? Buy a gumball? I would vote you stay there are some great people and some really fun things that happen on DPC.

I just thought I'd quote that.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I just renewed... I didn't want to make Scarbrd update his profile page. Oh, and your comments helped as well.

As a result, my job will suffer as my addiction to I hitting the refresh button continuously throughout the day will grow and I schedule business trips based upon shooting opportunities and DPC GTGs. Oh well, I think I can live with that.

This thread was timely for me - my membership expired a week ago. I was going through a wobbly patch and decided not to renew, but reading this has persuaded me that was a bad decision (even if I am only scoring 5.2 in the current free Study). Off to find my credit card, and get dressed again - damned cold without that shirt on!

Also, I just noticed on your profile you accomplished only one of your 7 goals, "Beat scarbrd in at least one challenge"

Talk about setting the bar low!

I'm glad you're staying on.

I needed some sort of incentive.

This is the best school you can find around, and $25 a year is less than you spend with bubblegum to keep you calm every time you hit the update button.

I have til next August until renewal, but I am already thinking hard whether I want to carry on or not. DPC is a great site, but is becoming dominated by a select few. It seems to be about where you fit by name, rather than by the photos and threads you post to.

There are a lot of people here who will help you, but there are as many who will ignore you cos you aren't in their cliche! I like the concept of the site, but feel it is becoming a select personality site rather than an open, free speech site.

I'd certainly say stay if you are interested in improving, looks like you already have a great grasp on photography from your portfolio. I know i have improved so much through this site, so for that reason i would certainly say that you should stay. It is certainly worth $25 to me.

Stay. If you can take images like this, , you just need to apply yourself a little more, be creative, and you will pull out a win on a challenge. Even if its just a hobby, its worth $25 to be able to advance edit.

First of all, give up on this:

Glad you renewed, Sara. A bit off topic, but my curiosity has a grip on me - is the "wobbly patch" a topless bar? ;-)
