Ugh that would really have me eating crow as I double checked on the cover thing before telling the volunteer. If it has to happen it has to happen but would be nice to avoid. |
If it came to that, I would have put her on both the cover and the month with the 2 photos of her you sent. A promise is a promise. |

No one shot for those months or you just haven't received two of them? (I read woo's is not shot).
May I suggest you post a separate thread with a well worded title and ask for three shots in the next two days? I'm sure with 80,000+ people on this site you would get 3 shots in no time.
edit: maybe there's no problem, I can't tell from all the posts lol. |
We are only missing (in file form) two right now. But, one has a shoot tonight (saturday), and the other is taking Eric's place. The blog is the only thing that was missing 3. Erica took care of 1, so that leaves TWO ( rossbilly and he who is not yet named). That needs to be updated asap because I am putting up a flyer at work on Sunday night so people will be visiting that blog and expecting to see those photos. |

Wow, Great cause. My father recently past away from cancer, Only 41 Years old. I can totally sympathizes with everyone who has to go though this terrible agony. I look at Cancer survivors like you would see a solider who makes it though a war. It's nice to see the few good people that still exists in this world fighting to help.
Thank You. |

Ok just so you can see - I do indeed have something for September lol. These are two that I am choosing from and the pics are unedited.
Is there anything I should know about getting the pictures print ready? My biggest concern is about sharpening. Should I not do it?

Min DPI was posted earlier (240 I think?), cropped 8x10. Black and white photo with the pink in color. I sharpened eyes and a bit and mouth/nose same as a regular portrait.
edit: found it, TCGuru said 220dpi minimum.

I have 300 dpi so I am good there. And you gave me dimensions already (thanks). My concern is that I have not done many prints. And sometimes i have screwed up the sharpening. I've learned that what looks good on my screen does not necessarily look good in print lol. I do not understand how to use USM either. So I was just gonna do a search on this and see what I could come up with.

If your biggest concern is getting it edited correctly for the print in the calendar get someone that has a calibrated monitor. I edited mine and printed it and then had to go back and reedit a little And personally I like the second shot you posted best. But that is just my opinion.

Well, keep in mind this is a calendar not a DPC challenge so the crazy demand for hyper-sharpened will not apply.
View your image at 50% size and make it look good there and you should be fine for print. I'd suggest radius 0.3, threshold 3, strength 250% for a start with USM. If you know how to use the history brush, you can erase or soften the sharpening over unimportant areas of the shot but either way those settings should get you a decent looking bit of sharpening. You can lower the strength if you think the effect is too strong. |

Thanks Rex. Good idea. I may go and print it. I keep leaning towards the second one too. :)

omg I've become DPC sensitized lol. It's that whole - must have clear and sharp picture mantra thing I got going on now.
Thanks for the info about sharpening. Gonna go edit now!

Sweat somemore girl. Cause when I get my order you know I have a guy that may order 130. Also I just met someone yesterday and her Dad is a dentist and will probably buy some and let his other doctor friends know so they can place them in their offices for their patients to have.

Ok here it is. This was a pretty cool thing to do and everything fell into place today. The woman on the left is my husband's aunt. And the woman on the right is also a survivor and both grew up in our small town but they had never met before their battle with breast cancer. The way that they met was thru the Race for the Cure and Relay for Life fundraising events.
Going to have to get a print of this to make sure it looks ok!
Edit to add: I guess I also need the password for the blog site so if someone could PM me that as well, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you for the shot in the arm NikonJeb as it turns out the shoot went great and we had a great time. The only problem I'm having is when I do a selective desaturation to pink like the other shots, Sharons' husband Jims' hair and nose show up pink. Any suggestions???? |

Use the sponge tool set to desaturate and take it out with the brush :)
Or, I can do it for you. Not a problem.

Add an adjustment layer after you have desaturated the whole image. Then paint on the second layer in pink where you need it.
Originally posted by fotomann_forever:
Ok, B&W photo is the background layer.
Create a new layer. Set it's blend mode to color.
Now with a paint brush, paint pink over the parts you want pink.
Adjust opacity of color layer to taste. |
