I am so sick and tired of everyone I know wanting me to hot/glam/dress up more.. I'm by no means a slob so why oh why does everyone think I need to look better.. I don't care what other people think of me and I don't have self esteem issues about the way I look and nobody likes that... The world has fricking regressed back to some kind of dark age where women have to look attractive 24/7 to be worth something.. It doesn't matter how good I feel about myself..
I believe in the out the other ear policy but people are getting annoyingly persistent.. and I'm feeling twitchy.. grrr

I feel for ya. Out of curiosity, are you mostly hearing this from guy friends or girl friends?

What I am curious about is whether or not you have asked this type of question to those making the suggestions. It could well be that theirs is a misguided attempt at improving your life.

Heh, just take it from the perspective "I am who I am, not confined by any branding, trends or what other people want me to be. As such, I am proud to be free :D"

That figures. They are showing herd mentality. You live outside their comfort zone and they don't know how to deal with you on their own terms. Stand firm.

As long as you can look back when you're 40, heavy and wrinkled with no regrets about the way you looked in your youth, then you have nothing to worry about.

I may have pressured my friends to play dress-up at your age. It was a bonding experience, and I was also insecure enough that I didn't want to be seen with any slouches:O

(Edit to add: That's the herd mentality Robert just mentioned.)

Fortunately, all of that pressure subsides as the years go by; along with your youthful appearance.

You are at that period in your life where the important stuff comes up for most people, like career and long-term relationships. Society tells us that these things are easier for those who look good.

If you are truly content with yourself and your life. I suggest you emphasize this to your friends. If they don't get it, find some friends who do.
