This is a pretty international community, so hopefully someone might be able to help me with this -- pricing for technical translation services.

My wife is fluent in French (Masters degree in French Literature) but has never really done anything with it (except for teaching a year at a French private school back in 1993). She just got asked to translate an IT company's web site text so they can create a French-language version. The total count (initially) is about 1000 words / 5 pages of text.

Anyone here have experience with this kind of service? What is a good pricing structure? It won't be easy for her because much of it is very technical -- I can help her understand what all that means in English but she'll have to work harder to determine the appropriate French equivalent without necessarily doing literal translations, so I don't know if it being technical writing affects the charge rate.

BTW, I would put this in the same league as Spanish, German, Italian and other such languages.

Thanks in advance -
Mike
