I have a prime 50MM lens, now I am purchasing an 85mm Prime lens. Does it make sense to have both or should I sell my 50MM or just not bother with the 85MM?

 Thank you

 PS
I am interested in the 85MM Nikon lens because I hear great things about it. |

Keep them both. the 85 is an amazing portrait lens. if you can only have 1 i would say keep the 50.

What do you want to shoot with it? The 85mm f/1.8 or the very expensive 85mm f/1.2 are great portrait lenses with amazing bokeh. So...unless you tell us what you want this lens for...

Gotta agree. I found I was not using my 85 1.8 so I sold it and replaced it with a Sigma 105 Macro. I get much more use out of it for my photography style.

So you have to ask yourself what your interest is first.

Rent the 85 for a week or so, and see if you like it. It's much cheaper than buying it and then selling it as a used item later if you don't need it.

In that case it makes a great lens. Good working distance and great clarity and bokeh.
