I am looking for a good, sharp, faster (2.8) lens to replace this f/4 lens. I love it, but i do a lot of lowlight photography (weddings , group work) and i just need something maybe a little longer, but still with a wide end...but with 2.8. i'd prefer L glass, so if anyone has any suggestions, please throw them out.
i was looking at the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM...any problems with this and group work? it's fairly wide, plus i think it would fill the gap i have between my wide end and my 70-200
any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated
thanks so much

| not sure the 24-70 is that wide on a cropped sensor, its a great lens, maybe not quite wide enough to replace the 17-40.. |

Well, the obvious suggestion is the 16-35 (except that you want longer). Of course, at almost 3x the price, it's a tough one to justify, IMO. I assume you've read the 16-35 vs 17-40 comparison at Luminous Landscape.
Did you sell your 17-40, BTW? =) |

| Either spend the money and go with the 16-35 or go prime for the lowlight. |

I was going to mention that there's a Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 ... but you had that one! =)
There's also the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS. I think idnic is a big fan of that one.
FWIW, here's a number of lenses I was considering earlier this year: lens chart |

| 24mm on an APS-C camera is not really "wide". |
