I am contemplating a Canon G9 purchase for general use, when hauling the SLR would not be appropriate or possible.
Anyone own one, and if so, your "verdict" on the G9?
Thanks in advance :~) |

| Looks like there's 6 owners of this fairly new-ish camera. No images as yet. Steve's Digicams and DPReview have done their reviews. Looks to be a very serviceable alternative to lugging a DSLR everywhere you go. |

I've had mine a few days, but haven't had the time to do much testing with it yet. Initial impression is quite good, and it is small enough that I haven't really gone anywhere without it yet.
Since all my other cameras use compact flash instead of SD, I've only had a 256mb card of my daughter's in it, so I've been shooting jpgs. Yesterday my 4GB card & extra batteries arrived, so I plan on shooting some RAW files today.
I did do this cheesy time-lapse, testing that feature when I had the chance, going to pick up the kids from school.

Man Hyperfocal, you are a crazy driver, do you always drive that fast?
I used to have a G9 for about a week (sold it with my Nikon gear to make up the value for my 5D swap) I was rather impressed with it to be honest. Nice vid mode. The RAW seems a bit noisey at higher ISOs but what do you expect from a pocket cam.. I enjoyed my very brief encounter with one and would not hesitate getting another. although if you do not have a desire to shoot RAW with it then may wish to opt for the cheaper G7 or the S1 pro's super 10X zoom. |

I'd been faster had there not been a cop behind me a good bit of the way;-)
I'm a bit disappointed to hear you got rid of the Fuji, as I'm considering it if I get back in the wedding photography biz and was anxious to hear your feedback on it.
One small negative with the G9 that I̢۪ve noticed is that the built-in viewfinder isn̢۪t as accurate as I would have liked. Besides only showing 80% of the captured of the captured image, framing can be off somewhat due to parallax inaccuracies. It wouldn̢۪t be a deal breaker had I̢۪d know about it before I bought the camera, but it can be a little annoying for someone like me who isn̢۪t used to composing with a LCD or just doesn̢۪t want to.

just "bumping" this back up--considering the G9 both for myself and for a Christmas gift
Just wondering if anyone has recently got one and has any feedback on the camera?
Thanks |
