Well shoot I just may take the splurge and get the D300 and hold off on the flash for a while. I can do more with the camera and a lens then I can a camera and a flash haha.
Unless I can talk hubby into a few hundred more lol. |

I've never regreted buying a Nikon, they make good lenses, the faster ones are better. Better for low-light, internal zoomming, and background bokeh/blurr. I don't mind the weight, but it may be heavy for some.
The only thing I hated is the expense of a remote trigger, but have gotten into wireless with Sekonic L-358R light meter and PocketWizard trancievers. They're more bulky but use radio frequency and distance is greater.

What good is it to have feminine wiles if you don't put them to good use now and again? |

hehe, true, true!
Well I've got it figured out now
D300
60mm f2.8 lens
18-70mm lens
2gb cf card
So now I'll just have to wait. I'll get the SB-600 flash and another lens when we get our income tax back.
He seems okay with that deal LOL.
So long as I let him buy a new trailer to put his smoker on. I knew there'd be something more. |

I'd get the 40D. It's got the 14bit Raw so you'll get more detail in the shadows, so they say. I'm waiting for an example showing this improvement. The 40D is cheaper than the D200 and both weight about the same. Of course if you can wait for the D300 it has the 14bit Raw too. But I wouldn't expect to be able to get a D300 until mid-summer next year unless Nikon does a little better than the D200. But..... I got my D200 by continually watching several of the big box stores like Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. They seemed to get dribs and drabs all along and I lucked up one day not long after release and got one. The D300 may go the same route. Anyway
good luck..
