With the use of menu loading in Photoshop what do you think about different menus for each of the editing rules?
I don̢۪t know if everyone knows but in Photoshop you can setup menus and save them by name, such as:
Minimum.mnu
Basic.mnu
Advanced.mnu
Expert.mnu
By making a menu for each rule set you can disable tools that cannot be used or color-code them. Color-coding is nice because you can do the following:
Green: Legal
Yellow: Legal with limitations
Red: Illegal
And so on!
Has anyone else though of this or done this? I have started making up menus for different editing rule sets to help while editing. This keeps me from making a mistake and using an illegal tool or not using a tool that is legal while editing. If I̢۪m editing a picture that̢۪s not for a challenge then I use the default.mnu which does not color code or restrict any tools.
Your thoughts?

Sounds like a great idea. There is nothing worse than working a photo and having to go back to the site all the time to check to make sure that you are not going to use something that is not allowed in the editing rules that the comp is running on.

That sounds very interesting. If they're merely colour coded you might even have them running all the time as it wouldn't impede your usual workflow.

yeah even colour coded for each editing rule rather than can use, cannot use, making basic blue, advanced yellow etc etc. Definately has my vote.

You should suggest this to the SCs/admins. Would be helpful to either have a page that shows you how to create them yourself or make them available for download. If similar things can be done with Bibble and other software people use even better.

Why is this SC responsibility?

I was thinking the same thing. Sounds to me like a personal issue between you and your copy of photoshop. Granted, it would be nice to make public any uses or methods that seem to work for an individual, but seems to me the site or SC has no responsibility towards this. JMO of course.
NOTE: I don't own photoshop. |

It's not the SC responsibility and I have not suggest it was. Yanko was just suggesting this may be a good idea to run by SC/Admins. Possibly to make sure that the menus are accurate and if a menu was made up by a user would dpc be interested in hosting the menu for download, making it easy for others users that may want to use it.
EDIT: to clarify

I wish the Mods would rename this forum "Off-Topic" ... so many useful threads like this probably get lost in here when they should be posted in, for instance, the photography-related "Hardware and Software" forum.
That said, I can't wait to try this tonight. Thanks for the tip! |

I'm going to ask SC to put this thread in Photography > Hardware and Software forum.
Anyone else think this would be a good way to keep up with legal and illegal tools under certain editing rule-sets. |

Sounds like a wonderful idea!
I'm sure there would be plenty of people clever and willing enough to create such menus for us to download, just as soon as we get the "ok" to do so (hopefully). |

| This is a great idea for a tutorial. If you write it, you can even get a month's free membership. |

| What ever happened to this idea. Stalled? Stalemate? |
