So much for reading Moby Dick this afternoon.

Moby Dick... ah man that things hard to read. Just watch the movie with gregory peck in it instead. Infinitely better and with the best script ever.

Anyway, thnkas for the link. About time DPR ran the review on it. Might just sway my decisions towards getting one, especially with the ability to transfer to external HDs, or did i read that wrong?

No, that means you can't hook the camera up to your PC and have it show up as a drive letter which you can then access like any other drive. You have to use the WIA driver.

I'm pretty sure you have to buy the wireless transmitter to copy to external drives. That's the way it is on the 1D mark 3.

The real question is: "Do I get the 40D now or wait and compare it to the D300 and consider the switch to Nikon?"

That's right, it won't just show up as the next drive letter or whatever. This isn't an issue if you use an external card reader though. The only way to transfer files DIRECTLY to an external hard drive (ie. without a computer in between) is with the wireless transmitter. It has a USB jack on it but cannot power the drive on its own like some USB powered drives require (WD passort drives for example).

You need the updated 5D when it comes out.
Don't ruin my trust in human nature by switching brands.

I highly doubt the update to the 5D will address my concerns about Canon's consumer DSLR cameras. Not to mention, it will likely be totally out of my price range.

And you should know better than to trust human nature.
