So is anybody getting much out of this tete to tete? I see many thoughts and ideas and hope that there is food for thought in the many comments and images posted. Thanks for letting it go so long. I appreciate that there were some near the beginning who said they were glad to have had this thread start so they could use some of the tips and compositional ideas. I hope more than one feels that way. |

a) Its a bit gross with the gunky food
b) The crop is awkward being too close to the eye and too cramped overall
c) Didn't really meet the challenge in my eyes
d) Yellow colour cast suggests white-balance problems |
I agree but there's also:
e) Better lens used with the higher scoring photo. I noticed it even before checking what lenses were used. |
Actually, I used the same lens for both pictures. |
I'm referring to kawesttex's photo which lists using Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM. That's not what you list for your photo.

Interesting thread so I suppose I'll toss my two cents into the mix. I find DPC an excellent opportunity to stretch my imagination and delve into photography from my artistic side. I entered 8 challenges and thus far I suck!! I laugh though because in my everyday work....I'm a photographer and a damn good one!!! However, until I came here I wasn't stretched to be creative. I come here and to other sites and see beautiful, creative, photography of, let's say, a piece of paper or pencils and I admit that I'd hang it on my wall!! I'm also a writer and an avid reader. In order to be a good writer you have to read the best writing. I've become a better photographer by hanging out at sites like DPC. I might be 50 years old but when I grow up....I wanna be like Joey Lawrence, Judi, Dr. Achoo, ......I can only name three cause I don't think I have room enough to name all of the seriously talented photographers on DPC. |

I think it deserved what it got. And I think your problem is that you're reading too far into it. Simplify, my friend. It isn't visually appealling and is a stretch for the challenge. Easy does it =] |

I hope you reconsider leaving June because you really do have some very nice images. I am here because I enjoy it and hope to learn more with each challenge. I have to admit though I am not always good at listening to advise and will go on and do the same things again and again just because I like them. I am sure most of my work is not considered convential in some ways, however I really enjoy it. I painted before photography and perhaps I lean that way to much for purist but it is fun and I love comments. Don't get me wrong doing well occasionally is great but enjoying what I do and how I see it is important to me. So if you love your images and think they are well done then I don't see the problem. No one group of people will love everthing you do but take heart in the fact that some see what you see. |
