As a relative noob here, I am glad to see the DQ's have died down recently, at least among the ribbon winners...when I first started at this site, DQ's were happening every challenge, and seemed to be the norm.

Is it cyclical, or was that just a rough time for the site? Either way, I'm glad to see people win because the deserve to win.

Hopefully this is a case of our proactive stance on rule-breaking images has meant that more people are aware of the rules before they submit, leading to less DQs. AFAIK, we haven't had to DQ a top 5 shot for over a week or two now, which is great news.

...and in member challenges there are fewer rules...when was the last time someone got a speeding ticket on the autobahn?

I guess there are fewer rules than before, but not since I joined (in December) and not for the open challenges....there were a lot of DQ's in December, and it looked at that time like enforcing the rules was not going to stop some from submitting photos that did not comply with the rules....so I think and hope that the reduction in DQ's (at least amongst the winners) is due to the proactive approach of the site and site council.

Am interested to know if the total number of DQ's has declined, or is it just that non-conforming photos haven't won recently?? In any event, kudos to the site/site council - I hope it stays this way.

I think there might be more in-challenge verification going on. Anything remotely questionable is being verified during voting. Very smart.

Remember that the top five finishers are now required to submit verification within 48 hours of the close of the voting, so there is yet the possibility of one or more photos being DQ'd for either a rules violation or failure to respond.

I know that's true of the recently released results, but I think there has been only one DQ of a ribbon winner since Jan 1st? A vast improvement since I joined in December (probably right in the middle of DQ mania).

Have the total number of DQ's dropped off since the improved enforcement began?
