The life of a camera set by click counts, and I wonder what happens after cameraĆ¢€™s life reaches the end. I now it probably won't die at 100G click maybe 95G or 120G (depending on the camera I believe) but what happens? Is it the shutter mechanism, or is it the sensor that start dying or both?

Also, if car engine gets too many miles, it can be rebuilt, is there such thing rebuilding a camera? Would it be cheaper to rebuild or buy a new one?

Just wondering these things if anyone could tell me.

Thanks

I believe it refers to shutter clicks and the shutter assembly can be replaced.

Canon charged me $ 250 to replace the shutter of my 10D, which was still worth a pretty penny at the time.

I almost quoted this price since I have heard it before in the forums. Seems to be a base fee for this repair.

Although the shutter is rated for 100K clicks, it could go longer if the camera is well cared for. Also, a sensor or any other part of the camera, any camera just like any other piece of technology, could fail at any given time for any number of reasons - age being only one of them.

As an example, the plasma and acrylate coater power supplies we use are both rated for 10000 hours continuous load output. However, one of the main regulating transistors is only rated for 1000 power cycles. So if we power the unit on and off and don't run it continuously, chances are this transistor will be the failing component (and it is 98% of the time).
