i want to upgrade for a D200,

yet i see the price is still stagnant although the D300 is right around the corner, do you guys think this price is going to drop, meaning i should just be patient and get a d200 at around 1000-1200 OR i should just go ahead and figure out how the hell i am going to get the money for the D300?

Everything I've seen about the noise levels and features makes me want to wait for the D300. The D200 is a huge upgrade from my D70, but I love what I have read about the D300. Hopefully I can squirrel away a bit of money so I can pick one up in the next 6 months or so...

I am sure the D200 will come down in price. Just be patient. I picked up a D70s body only for $615 (CND, when it was not over the US$), right after the D80's came out.

agreed but 1899 it's too much for me right now since i want to get an SB800 and a sigma 10-20 along with the D200,
so if i go D300, i won't be getting anything else

Yes, it is going to drop. I heard it should be around 1300 euros (maybe slightly less) in Europe. Though, not quite cheap. If you are in the US, I believe it should be around 1200 $.

The D200 is just an amazing camera. I used to have a D70 and there is no way I will go back.

Personally, I will not get the D300, the difference between the D200 and D300 are not too large.

If you have enough money, go for the D300.
If you want to get a nice glass with it, go for the D200

i hope it drops to 1200... i think the D300 is due in november so i am hoping around thanksgiving will be the right time ti make the purchase

You will certainly not regret it...It is a really superior camera...I will not change it before at least three more years. Nikon rules!

The D200 has already taken a drop to the $1250-1300 range once this year. I bought my first D200 body from B&H on 12/12/2006 for $1,299. The special lasted about a month if I remember.

Keep looking and you'll get it for that or less.

I'd love to do that as well and I have no problem convincing myself that the D200 or D300 is the way to go and I have the money to do it but there is a wife in between who is not so convinced :(

Wife is more important...Listen to them, they always have good pieces of advice...maybe you can get better glass as a trade off.

Good luck

well glass is good, i wanted to get the SB-800 as well, BUT really my D50 is just holding me back, i know i know it's not the camera but the photographer, but the D50 is lacking to my current needs

I'm in a similar situation. What are these "needs"?
My main need is a bit more resolution.

I won't be surprised if you see bunches of low-use D200's on the market soon., saving even more.

Canon 30D's are certainly a lot easier to find now the 40D is out.

But, yes the D200 should drop soon after D300 hits the shelves.

well
1- faster shooting, sometimes i am covering shows, and try to capture the action with the D50, i got a couple of nice shots, but i am sure the D200 would have yielded better ones.
2-in deed the resolution.
3- iso range is much better in the D200
4- focusing points , there was a thread about that earlier, who uses it and who does not, well i am one of those who actually uses the 5 points on my D50, 11 points will be much better (of course 51 points will be very sweet)
5-color metering on the D200 is much better than the D50
6-time lapse ( i am really into this stuff) and i can't get myself to buy expensive equipment to do it when you can do it with your camera.
7- i would like to say the built, but to be honest i like hte feel of my D50.

I'm banking on a drop in price when the D300 hits the market... I just have to remind myself that I'm switching for lenses, not fancy new bodies, or I'll end up with a D300 instead!

hehe just got the Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di for Nikon and after unpacking it I was asked by my wife what lens I wanted next! w00t.

And zaflabout Price wise I would wait untill the release of the D300, surly there will be a price drop along with demand for the D200 and trade ins as well.
