Can you give a customer TOO MANY choices? Can presenting a customer with too many options to choose from make it harder rather than easier to make a decision?

I think I've gone and done it! :-(

I usually provide about 8-10 different options on invitations as a "starting point" to get the ideas rolling on what the final invitation can look like. (even at 8-10, I think I may be giving too many)

Well, in this case, I started off with 19. WAY too many, huh? But heck, I was having fun. I was using Fotofusion which lets you rapidly experiment with different layouts. And so I got carried away. But in spite of having 19 to choose from, we've gone the rounds "a few more times" now in trying to decide on a base line invitation (we haven't even gotten to the point of editing the text or the photos yet).

Anyway, take a look... we're up to TWENTY-FIVE versions of the invitation now. Hopefully we'll stop here and pick one.

Oh, yes. Most definitely. I pine for the days when there was one phone company, for example. Not in a social justice or fairness way, but in a "I don't want to have to analyze 4328 different land line/internet/cell phone packages" way. And we don't even get cable to add to the mix.

If you are a professional, you have an obligation to limit the customer's choices. Otherwise let them throw darts.

Hmmm... an excellent image to keep in mind.

I recommend the set of darts I normally use. The blue ones mean minus 2 east and up 3 north. The red ones mean "do over" but only if hitting the color red, otherwise it means double the green darts result (assuming,of course, you're using the two knockdown rule).

My choice.
Yes. You can give too many choices. They become way too critical and think because it's digital it's "easy" to keep shooting. Your time requiremnents for post processing or file prep work in presenting the proofs is not taken into consideration....they want more, more, more!
Keep it simple. Give them at most a dozen quality shots to choose from.
Just my opinion. ;)

dude-dave, that's why you don't go to the mall food court for gourmet dining. the best restaurants limit your choices so that they can put their best efforts into their specialities. they didn't get to be the best by trying to serve everything they could come up with ;-)
