For those who asked about the fire photo:

I did not "set it up" but the fire marshall is still working on it.

It is not my home, it was a rental, a single Mom and two kids -all are well.

I hope it looks like a newspaper photo--it was. I am a stringer for the local paper (I write but also supply photos for my stories). I saw the smoke on this one and beat out the photog the paper dispatched. (Yes the papers will pay you for good photos that you just bring in if they are newsworthy--you do not need a prior agreement).

I was also wondering why no one moved the car. There were many firefighters on scene before it caught.

As for the "people" not being in the center--I certainly could have cropped that or used one of the 30 other photos that was a closeup of a firefighter. This image was complete, dramatic and dynamic I saw no need to center the subject. In fact when I compose an image I work hard to follow the rule of thirds and AVOID centering the subject. Of course in a fluid situation like a working fire the rules do get broken, bent and bruised. In fact I have an image in todays paper with a water technician seeming to have tubing going down his nose because I failed to look closely at the background.

Chance favors the prepared mind. I got that shot before the cops got set up enough to chase me behind the safety zone.
