I am terribly sorry today if I have offended any of you hard working and truly intelligent photographers who are striving to make a difference in the world.
I have been here on this site more or less for about 4 years except for the part where I got a little expelled for telling the truth about what is on my mind. I take it back I have officially been here for 3 years. Give or take a breath or two.
What is up with the banality of work here? I come here and I see work which looks like nothing special sometimes nothing except sever depression spreading across my tired monitor. I don't know if any one else feels the same way here its the same 10 or 20 people winning scores not that scores matter, but its just the thought that its just the 10 or 20 photographers get to tell the rest of us how to make a really good photograph.
I suppose its like the rest of the world here, but sometimes I wish it wasn't. I wish more people with a legitimate voice and image could win, but they don't there is only one way the commerciail way here and sometimes its better to buy the magazine or the hall mark post card to see the picture than to come here and see how sad some of us get here.
This is my day to vent and I hope I haven't made you disagreeable or disgruntal just that I wish that there was some more even way to spread the love of art around the world.
Good Luck and Happy Hunting to those of the persevering naturing. |

I see you're in South Korea and maybe thats part of the problem but I am really having a hard time following what you are saying.
I do seem to get the point that you don't like the style of the photographs that usually win, and that is something that has been discussed and debated until the horse is beaten beyond recognition.
It is what it is.......

So you are saying that 10 or 20 people out there are somehow brainwashing the hundreds of submitters and voters that frequent this site, and that you, as brainwash-immune are more correct than any of them? Do you realize that only a small portion of the DPC users ever read forums? Perhaps what scores well here is what the general populations votes as the best.... Nah, that can't be it.
BTW - every shot on this site IS NOT and WILL NEVER BE stellar, because this community accepts and embraces new camera owners - new users every day.

There is always going to be someone better than you, no matter who you are or where your from. Someone will have better equipment, more experience and better photographs or whatever. That is someone everyone just needs to learn how to deal with. Focus on your art and develop however you feel is right. If you think that 10 or 20 photographers on this site or telling you what is a good photograph and you don't like that, then leave. I personally disagree with you. Each comment/criticism I get I take as constructive and I keep it in the back of my mind as I work, but I know what kind of photographs move me and make me happy, and that is my greatest inspiration.

Er, unknowndeath, on the Flora/Fauna scoring thread, your quote: "I keep wondering every time I post what I see wins here is what I would call pop shit meaning that its consistent with the post card shit or media pop culture nothing new nothing outrageous and definitinely not art."
That really is quite a statement. Sure there are some very, very artistic photos on this site that don't score well. But there are also some exceedingly artistic photos that do win (just my opinion, of course, as we all know that everyone has a different concept of art).
I'm going to post three of the photos currently on the front page, as I did in the Flora/Fauna scoring thread following your statement. I'm just not seeing the "media pop culture shit" or "post card shit" connection here. What I am seeing is sour grapes.

Your comments / opinions don't seem rude at all, though there seems to be a language barrier (on both sides?)
Part of what you describe is due to WHO does the teaching here. This site began as a contest site, but also one of learning. Just like in a corporation, the prevailing ideals will tend to follow those of the founders. Many people with lots of ribbons have also BEEN here a long time, and they understand what does / doesn't do well at DPC.
Of course, their techniques become inspiration for the newer people, since it was good enough to 'ribbon' the first time. This leads to lots of images that are repeated (flowers, kids, animals, waterdrops, etc.)
I've stopped worrying about trying to win a virtual ribbon, and now try to focus on the business side of photography (which I apparently suck at too! LOL) As that isn't the main focus here, I find myself looking elsewhere - but still enjoy the comradarie only this place allows.
Remember, everyone is here for their own reasons - just something to think about...
ETA - After viewing your most recent posts, maybe you COULD use a lil Prozac . No need in being rude to people - its THAT simple.

Yeah I agree, dude if you are so bitter about what wins and what doesn't then please LEAVE, true sometimes the pop culture "shit" wins but their are some incredibly powerful and unique shots on this site....so deal with it |

i'm locking this thread. the OP is a user who was removed from the site years ago, but somehow managed to log in again.
we're now able to remove accounts more effectively, so we've put that in place.
