I just bought a new lens today from a local photo supply store in my town. I took off my cap to try out the lens and I think a piece of dog hair from my golden Labrador Retriever fell inside of my camera. It flew past my mirror and onto what appears to be the sensor. (I'm not exactly clear on this.) I got info from a fellow photographer not to touch it and take it in immediately. Before I do though, I would like to know:

1) If there is anything I can do for it myself?
2) If this has ever happened to any of you before, what did you do?

You should be able to blow a hair out. Get your manual, read about mirror lock-up and sensor cleaning. Then get a baby aspirator (those bulb things you clean a baby's nose with) and use that to blow air onto the sensor until the hair comes out. In good light you should be able to CLEARLY see a hair in there.

Aye, I have had to remove dog hair a few times from my camera/lenses. Blowing it out is the best method, so you don't risk wedging it in a crevice or scratching a sensitive part. It's an easy operation, no need to be nervous. Your gear is heartier than you think. ;o)

Making sure you've emptied it since the last baby-nose cleaning...

LOL I recommend a new one that is ONLY for the camera! :P
(a RocketBlower blows much more air, but you have to get that from a camera store. The baby aspirator is at any drugstore.)
