The time has come. Since Tamron now has rebates, I want/need a telephoto zoom - and perhaps a wide angle too :)
I finally got my 40D today and I also ordered a Rebel XT for dedicated IR conversion. Yup, I have lost my mind. But I need lenses! I got the Canon 28-135 that I will use on the XT-IR... but then my 40D will be naked.
Anyway - I was thinking the 18-200, but that lens is on the "hot spot" list (for IR lenses). Anyone know about the 18-250 for IR? Does it have a hot spot?
How do the 2 compare with you real users out there?
Then there is the tempting 11-18. I really had not considered a Tamron for wide angle and was waiting to get a Canon 10-22, but with rebates and all....
11-18 - $450 - $50.00 Rebate
no rebates on the teles unfortunately.

The Canon 10-22mm is SUCH a nice example of the breed, IMO it's silly to cut corners to save 100 bucks. Really... One of the nicest things about it is that it is wonderfully free of flare, a real asset with an extreme WA lens where you are always getting light sources in your image.

Good to know. I loved the way my 15mm fisheye could handle the sun and I love those type of shots too.

the 10-22 has NO FLARE, even when shooting directly into the sun - it's friggin amazing in this regard!
If you must go tamron...17-50 2.8, 24-135 (i got a used one for sale...but it's about the same as the canon you have) or the 28-75 isn't bad - focus speed is down from the canon USM lenses (like the 28-135 you have).
Have you thought about going prime? I recently got the 28 1.8 and it's great, as is the 85 1.8. The 50 1.8 is cheap IMO. I don't think if you have the 28 you'd need a 50 - one step or so is the zoom difference.
Can't you share the 28-135 between the two cameras? a body cap is cheaper than any lens (and you can make a pinhole 'lens' from one.) //www.camerahacker.com/EOS_Pin-Hole_Lens/index.shtml

I love my Tammy 11-18mm but the range is kind of limiting. Check the Tokina 12-24mm if you want solid with a good range. I shot the Canon 10-22 and Tammy 11-18mm side by side same day... for me I could not justify the wide margin in cost for the quality between the two when compared side by side on the monitor (prolly just me).

I want some reach - ok, a lot of reach - along with wide angle too - so it's the Tamron 18-200 or 18-250 at this point. I cannot afford the 100-400L I used to have and less lenses/lighter weight will make it much easier to shlep all my stuff too :) Especially since I went and bought a second camera! I need a chaperone. heh heh
At this point I am concerned with dust getting into the Rebel XT-IR. I don't know if it is possible to clean the sensor on an IR converted camera. That 28-135 will cover most IR shots and the Canon 10-22 (which I will get) is also good for IR, so I can use that as well.
