No thread on this challenge? Got a question for all the DNMC voters. Looking at the first challenge most of the images are just of animals, not doing something within there environments. So, for example. If someone enters a shot of a dog in the air catching a ball or maybe a human holding up a stick and the dog is in mid air in the act of grabbing it. Will this type of shot get voted down. Or is this just a challenge to capture a wild animal in its environments? (example not close to my entry)

By definition, fauna = animal life; especially : the animals characteristic of a region, period, or special environment (websters dictionary), so technically a dog is fauna, but it usually IMPLIES non domesticated animals, so would be up to individual voters, as per usual, and as per usual, this is IMHO.

Looking at the last challenge, only 2 domestic type of animals in the top 50. I kinda do my own thing here, so I'll bank on special environment to get my average score.....Thanks for the reply.

In my opinion Fauna implies animal life. It being mammals, reptiles, insects. Anything that is alive and its non-plant. So technically a dog is part of fauna. Fauna is doesnt have to be all wildlife. But like the other challenges you will be a the mercy of the voters. :(

I'm with Jacque's definition.

Whilst I wouldn't vote 1's for a pet or other domesticated animal, I would certainly have a much higher regard for seeing real fauna (as per the definition).

Maybe not "alive". That sterling source, Wikipedia says (emphasis mine):

Fauna is a collective term for animal life of any particular region or time...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fauna

So a stuffed, or fossilized specimen would probably technically qualify.

Play it safe with the voters, just change the name in your head from Fauna to Wildlife.

What about an wild animal in a cage? Is that considered fauna?

What about cows and other farm animals, no they are not wild animals but this isn't a wild life challenge but they are animal life, and no I don't have a picture of a cow.
Dogs are animals so I wouldn't vote them down if they are in Fauna.
Actually I don't think I would vote down any animal or insect but it does scare me what some of the voters will do. My opinion is if its an animal its ok, caged, wild or in your living room.
Now I have to go check out the debate in Flora!
