I have recently moved into a house with an extra room for a studio. My sister has the basic equipment and lives next door so she is excited about having a place other than her creepy basement.
My stupid question of the day is.... what is the best wall color for a studio? |

I like white so I can use the walls for bounce when I need to.

Here's an article that might help you...
Article
Specifically:
"Q. I'm converting a 10x14-foot bedroom into a home studio. What color should I paint it?
A. If it will still serve as a bedroom, paint the room an 18% (or slightly lighter) gray. If it's solely a studio, for optimum light control paint the two long walls and ceiling black. Then, as backdrops, paint one short wall white and the other 18% gray. Either way, use matte, not glossy, paint."

Alan hit the nail on the head.
Either way, you want a neutral color - grey, black, white, so as not to introduce a color cast.
The choice of luminosity depends on how you want to use those surfaces. As Cindi said, you can use white to bounce. Which is helpful for her high key style.
Grey can bounce also, but less effective.
Black is going to be a light sucker. Very helpful if you like low key.

Whatever color you decide to paint it, I'm sure you're going to love it! Having a studio area (no matter how small or diy-ish) is so much fun! Good luck! |

I started out with black side walls to control the light, Very tough for me. They are now white, the bounce of light really helps and I still have good control over the shadows & highlights with my strobes. As a amateur as I am, I would recommend white. |
