I am on my way to pick up a few books about starting up, but thought I would ask those here for their opinions.
I’m not quitting my weekday job. But I want to know what I need to expect in turning this cash business into something honest? Right now it is small weddings, portraits, and lots of sports portraits. This next spring/summer I expect to be doing thousands of dollars worth of sports portraits—soccer, baseball, football, wrestling, gymnastics, maybe more. I know Uncle Sam will want his piece, so for those that have started from scratch, and now have tax id numbers, websites, studios, real legally binding contracts, and registered business namesâ€Â¦
What monies do I need to have saved up? What is it going to cost me out of the chute? (Not to go full throttle studio, but to start a legit weekend business. Studio space and billboards can come later.) What can expect to happen and what do I need to prepare for? Is this the best place/audience to ask these questions?
I think it seems that I am asking too much at once, so...who do I approach first, that can get me on the right track to running a legit operation?
Tax lawyer?
Accountant?
Small business lawyer?
How did you start out...who was your first phone call to? Point me in the right direction and give me slap on the backside, I want to make an honest go at this!
Thanks!
