Grr.... after many tries, finally got my password to Adobe, and after many tries, finally downloaded Adobe Lightroom to try for 30 days. Now I can't get it to install. It starts, but then says some files can't be expanded because either my disk is full (it is not) or I need to check the security attributes of the folders. So I go to the folders, and the folders created are indeed Read Only - I uncheck that and try again and still get the same message. Is it Vista? Toshiba? Is there any hope??

The main problem you'll have with Vista is security. Right click on the installer and select "Run as Administrator" and see if that'll get it to install. Then, after it is installed, right click on LR's icon and go into properties and tell it to run as administrator all the time.

I had Lightroom and Photoshop up and running on my Vista desktop for several months earlier this year and they both seemed fine. And then when the desktop died, I replaced it with a laptop. When we were unable to get either LR or PS to install on the laptop running Vista, I downgraded the laptop to XP and now they both work fine.

SO... I have both success and failure stories with Vista. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice - it was worth a shot. Same error. I guess I shall wait til I get back to Germany (sometime in January) and see if install it on the home machine, which is thankfully still XP. Can't change the OS on the laptop as I have no software here with me. Bummer, as this would be a nice opportunity to try new software with old pictures.
