I don't live anywhere near Hollywood, but today Hollywood came here. They are filming a movie called Adventureland apparently, and today/tonight it was in the neighborhood across the street from me. Yeah, I had to go see what's up. It was dark, and I knew I couldn't get too close, so I took my 40D and 70-200 2.8 IS.
Apparently that's enough of a camera to scare the actors...a crew person came over and told me that, and to stop taking pictures.
I didn't stop, but did get a bit more discrete.

BTW, gear DOES matter and don't let anyone try and tell you different. I was shooting at ISO 3200 mostly, and at 1/15 to 1/40 of a second wide open or close to it, handheld. Sorry, but lesser ISO or non IS or non fast lenses wouldn't have allowed me to get any images at all.

Jesse Eisenberg is the actor, Greg Mottola the director, and I think the girl is Marguerite Moreau.
More pics at this location with EXIF data. BTW, no noise reduction has been done, and some werre shot RAW, some med JPG. Resized and some USM for the web - that's it folks. This is how they came from the camera. I love my 40D!

Awesome job. Those are great. I've never put mine to the 3200 test. I'm impressed.

On my 30D i hated to go above 1000. The 40D...I've made test prints at ISO3200 - it works just fine, even up to 8x10 prints (i rarely make bigger and hope I don't have a need to do so when I have to shoot at 3200!)

3200 isn't noiseless of course and not quite as sharp as 1600, but it's useable.

This is also an ISO3200 shot - you can read the words on the film 'cartridge' including the tiny phone number.

Hi Prof,

Great shots, were you free-standing or could you rest some part of your body against something for greater stability (e.g. lean your shoulder on a lamppost, sit on a fence, etc?)

BTW, resizing is noise reduction--if you downsize to 20%, you are averaging 25 pixels (5 wide x 5 high) and this tends to reduce noise greatly.

great shots, now get them off of pbase and try to sell them to one of the rags for a lot of money! By giving them out for free you are killing the paparazzi industry! Paparazzi's have to eat!

Looks like the director has a bit of a crush on the leading actress. :P

Great shots!

:-D

I hope he didn't present himself as a professional Paparazzi. He could do the industry great harm.
