Earlier this year I won a car, Neither me or my wife likes it, she has a new minivan, I have a company truck I can use for personal reasons. We (She) decided we could dispose of it. The car is worth about $8,000 and I get about half that to spend on me.
Iâm thinking a new 5D from Costco $2,500. I know I can buy it cheaper, but it lists under bonus features the following.
Bonus Accessories:
2GB 80x CF Card
Waterproof
Dust Proof
ESD Proof
Extreme Temprature Resistant
I have heard several complaints about the lack of waterproofing on 5Dâs, Your thoughts?
I will also be able to purchase a good wide angle, I already have a 50-F/1.4, and a 70-200 F/4L. Suggestions?
I also hope to sell my current Xti for a good tripod, and whateverâs left upgrade my 70-200 to a F2.8.

Ahh, spending someone else's dough.
I would
- dump Xti
- dump 70-200 F4L
- buy 5D as cheap as possible
- buy 24-70 2.8L
- buy 70-200 2.8L
- buy extra battery
- buy tripod
- use change for CF cards
5D isn't waterproof, from Costco or anywhere else. It's resistant enough that you should be good to go short of dropping it in the pool. |

| Quick question, will the 24-70 2.8 be able to photograph the Fountains at the Bellagio in FF. |

Canon Canada put out the fall rebates with a bit chunk off the 5D. (double again).... Might want to hold off until the US ones are released as you might save a chunk of change [if you can deal with the corruption of the rebate process].
Want wide try the 16-35 if you have the cash :-o/
Nice camera :-)

Still shopping. Is âISâ worth the extra $6-700.00.
Oops, on the 70-200 F/2.8.

Tough call for me too.
The IS well help in low light with sationary subjects. It will not help with moving subjects, you'll still need a fast shutter speed to stop action.
I like the IS feature but I think it is very over priced.

IMO, it is worth it on the 70-200, yes. Example: If you're shooting people in low light, the IS will allow you to shoot at 1/50s (about the slowest you normally want to shoot people at). That's a benefit even @ 70mm, and a 2-stop benefit at 200mm.

| Thank you David and Fritz, with whatâs going on my life right now, I already know this will be my last major upgrade for quite awhile, and I want to make every penny count. |
