I know this might sound retarded, but is a candid shot consider a portrait?
Thanks

I'm going with one. So I consider it a portrait. Of course, the voters will crucify us, but what the heck? :-) |

Personally, I'd probably vote it down, but that's just me. "Portrait" implies that the subject knows they're being photographed...

portrait is supposed to give off the persons personality, emotion. They don't have to know there photo is being taken if thats in it...
por·trait (pôr'trĭt, -trāt', pōr'-) Pronunciation Key
n.
1. A likeness of a person, especially one showing the face, that is created by a painter or photographer, for example.
2. A verbal picture or description, especially of a person.

I'm with Alan. To me Portrait & Candid are 2 different things. Portrait implies an intentionally created image while Candid implies an unplanned catch. Just my opinion, I'm sure others see it differently.

It could be considered a portrait but trust me here voters will give you low scores and alot of DNMC's. Even though it could pass as a portrait still you would not be happy with your scores unfortunately here the voting can be tuff

Well, I can promise you there will be PLENTY of shots in the challenge that take that definition literally. And I can promise I will not vote as highly for them as I will for people who have actually posed a group for a shot.
When you think of a "group portrait," is this really, honestly the kind of thing that comes to mind... After all, they're showing their personalities/emotions and everything, right?
I'd hardly think that any of those people in Cleveland's "Dawg Pound" would say they were "participating in a group portrait" for me at that moment. But plenty of people will shoehorn exactly this kind of thing into the challenge because that's the easy way out.

So it does. I never read it because I don't plan on entering. Thanks for pointing that out Shannon.

Let me get this straight, you're complaining about the lack of deail in the challenge description (when the specific detail IS mentioned in the description) without having read the description because you don't plan on entering the challenge?
WOW

Is it still frowned upon to go steal a few children from the local elementary school? I need models!

If you steal from the elementary school there would be some heavy consequences given accountabilty issues regarding the institution's ability to monitor student saftey, but if you happen to meet parents at dismissal - I bet there would be a huge give-away! ;) |

The Dog Pound in Cleveland is brutal. In my PhotoJ days I was covering a Houston Oilers game at Cleveland. It was in December and had snowed quite a bit the day and night before the game. The snow was pushed off the field and was in big snow banks up against the stands. The stands were very close to the field so there wasn't a lot of room from the sidelines to the where the snow was piled up.
On one play a photographer got rolled up on a play going out of bounds where he was kneeling and taking pictures. He was hit so hard that he was knocked unconscience, the hit also bent his monopod in half. I'm talking a realy hard hit on the guy. This was down at the end of the field near the Dog Pound, as they call it. As the photographer was laid out on the snow bank and people were tending to him, he was being pelted with snowballs from the Dog Pound. Just picture the poor guy, totally unconscience and being hit with icy snowballs every few seconds.
Tough fans in Cleveland.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. Every game I've gone to in Cleveland has featured multiple fights with police involvement (not to mention the dork who jumped onto the field two years ago, and eventually got body slammed by James Harrison of the Steelers -- I was *right* there when that happened).
I've been to plenty of games at other stadiums, and Cleveland fans are always relentless. Apparently there's a rule that says that a team's fans are proportionally rude when compared to how bad their team stinks (ok, granted, they've somehow managed to get back to 2-2!).
Ok !
