Agree and then buy yourself a good 2nd hand one. At least that will get you a camera for now. |
Yep. Then attach it with a chain to your bag (or your wrist)! |

Oh, and I alerted SC to a possible scam here. |
No scam..
i would never ask that especially from people i dont know.
the only people i would ask for money for a new one would be my friends that lost the last one. but as far as joining today. i was researching solutions online and this site came up and i was reading other forums. i figured everyone here knows alot about cameras and maybe someone has been in my situation. it was worth a shot |
You said you charged the camera. Most credit cards have some sort of buyers protection that lets you get your money back or a replacement item if something happens in the first xx days of purchase. |

Is it bad luck or just not being responsible with your equipment? |

Huh? Do you even know that you need to PAY for an insurance policy that will cover your losses? Same for a cell phone - you pay an extra charge each month for that insurance. Do you have an insurance policy? If so, then you can put in a claim. But it seems to me, that if you were paying premiums, you would KNOW that you have insurance.

exACTly what I was thinking. that's so lame of your friends to borrow a camera you paid for then say 'sorry I lost it... when you gonna fork out another 400 bucks so I can lose another one?' but not be willing to say 'hey, can I donate a couple hundred to your next cam? it's all I've got, but you were generous with me....'
yeah, I had a lot of friends take advantage of me back in Canada. And I still give out freebies, but I also understand the risks and only give things I can afford to lose or that they can afford to replace.
Next: Get a handle thingy. use a key ring clip thingy and sew a couple of sturdy loops into your purse at the bottom and at the top corners.
use key ring clips and lock your keys, your change purse/wallet/ID/cash holder, your camera AND your phone if you have such a thing to the little loops inside your purse.
Consider using the zipper of your purse...
I have an expensive phone and it's attached to my person by a chain. My wallet is inaccessable due to my fat-ass thighs and unforgiving cuts on the pockets of my pants... my keys are clipped to my person.
I lost a 400 dollar pair of sunglasses because I didn't clip them properly to my person while I went on a hike. Not even sold in this country. I now make my own sunglasses holders.
Finally, go out and do some research. Find an older camera that does a nice job for cheap. There are tons out there. Check the Nikon Coolpix 5400 and 5700, the Canon S2 IS, the Fuji FX-10, Panasonic FZ-20........ Most can be found for 100-200 bucks in your local second hand market. Lots can be done with those cameras if you know/learn how to use light.
I don't live in a high crime area, so I'm relatively loose with my stuff. If I lived somewhere else, I'd be a couple of degrees more anal. And I still wouldn't lose my wallet. |

I skimmed the answers (didn't read them all in depth), so sorry if this is repeat info.
If you purchased it on a credit card you may have buyer protection. To make a claim you'll need to supply proof of purchase, e.g., a copy of the receipt as well as a copy of the credit card statement that has the purchase on it. You'll also need a copy of a police report, which you may have to pay for (if it is officially considered Lost not Stolen). Your credit card company should be able to supply the full requirements. |

Keep your eyes open in pawn shops... you can find some great deals there occasionally. |
