okay so i cant help but feel completly jinxed...

this was my third digital camera, the last two i had got stolen. my first one i got at christmas time 2 years ago and it was literaly stolen out of my purse at school. the next one my friends were using and they forgot about it left at a bowling alley and when they went to go back and get it, it was gone. so about 3 weeks ago i opened a best buy credit card because i couldnt take it any longer i needed a camera. i have no money and a part time minimum wage job while im in college. well today at school i was studying in the lunch area and my stuff was all spralled out at my table i know i took my camera out and set it next to my bag so i could find my planner and thats the last time i 100%know i had it. when i got home to charge it and it wasnt there. so yeah another camera gone and this one ive only had for a few weeks...

so i guess im just really desperate beacause im down on my luck and i cant afford one whatsoever now considering im paying for one off my credit card that i dont even own. is there something i can do maybe that best buy or the supplier will do i need serious advice because i might not be able to get another one for a very very long time??

im not lying when im saying im in tears over this one so i hope i can hear something promising.

wow thats some really bad luck, unless your household insurance covers you I dont think their is much that can be done Im afraid. But as an aussie I know nothing about a best buy card, perhaps someone else will know more. Commiserations thou :(

Just out of curiousity, what led you to this site to ask the question? From your profile, you just joined today. I'd suggest you start by going back to the store where you bought it and ask if there's anything to be done.

Start by filing a report with the campus administration and/or campus or local police department.

You might check for it at local pawn shops -- if you have a recept or something with the serial number you'll probably get some action.

If you get another camera, consider inscribing your driver's license number on it.

Agreed. Also file a report with campus police/security.

I too find it very odd that you only joined today and first thing post this heart breaking tale. Call me a sceptic, but I smell a rotten egg here. I truly hope you aren't hoping the kind generous folks on DPC will fall into having sympathy for your carelessness and offer to give you a new one, or money to help you.

Oh, and I alerted SC to a possible scam here.

What do ya do? Ya stop cryin about it and learn to be responsible and keep track of your stuff. BestBuy could care less if you lost it.

that blows, had my stuff stolen off the back of my car while i was inside.
Slick people these days

anyway, homeowners insurance covers it. I dont know how much your deductible is though.

What GeneralE said is pretty much all you can do. Next time don't let anyone borrow it and get a camera case that with a belt loop and put in there and only take it off to shoot with it. I lost a camera once i left in a cab, no fun at all...

What a rough welcome mat, guys.

A bit odd, but can we hold off on the accusations until at least page two.

No scam..
i would never ask that especially from people i dont know.
the only people i would ask for money for a new one would be my friends that lost the last one. but as far as joining today. i was researching solutions online and this site came up and i was reading other forums. i figured everyone here knows alot about cameras and maybe someone has been in my situation. it was worth a shot

but im sorry it sounds bad to you guys...

i really do just want advice
10/02/2007 02:17:57 AM · #16
which cameras did you own?
10/02/2007 02:26:40 AM · #17
none of them are really high tech they have been iether gifts or i bought them with little money but whats sad is i have the boxes for all of them still

but my first was a fujifilm camera my boyfriend bought me. i had that for 3 months. it was 5.2 megapixels optical and digital zoom nothing to special.

the second one lasted me about a year. my graduation present from my dad and step mom it was a sony with only 5 megapixels digital zoom only but i didnt expect them to pick out anything too nice.

this last one i bought on the best buy credit card was a kodak easy share camera with 7 megapixels digital and optical zoom.

i know the descriptions arent that great but you guys are far better than me at photography. One day when i can really invest the time and money i want to get a really nice one. but it would seem to some that im just not responsible enough to handle one for a while...

which is sad because when it comes to everything else i havent had a problem with them getting lost or stolen. im a good kid that keeps good grades, stays out of trouble, and i make educated decisons.i cant help but feel jinxed when it comes to cameras.

I wonder what gave them that idea? You know something, I'm a parent of 4 children and if one of them came to me and told me the same story you told us, I would tell them the same thing I told you.
True story here. My oldest daughter wanted a digital camera for her birthday last year. I agreed and we went to the store and got her one. She picked out a Nikon CoolPix L4 I think it was. Not a fancy camera but it was small and compact like she wanted. Actually took decent photos. I was surprised. One night she came home all mad because she left her purse lay on the floor at a friends house and some kid step on it. Well it turns out he stepped right on her camera and it broke the LCD on the back. The only way to see where you were pointing the camera was with the LCD. It didn't have a viewfinder. She wanted me to buy her another camera. Basically I told her the same thing I said to you. She was mad when I refused but oh well. She saved her money, bought her another camera eventually. This time she got a nice padded case to put it and I don't think she leaves her purse lay on the floor anymore. I'd like to think she learned a good lesson from her mistake.

Too bad for you since you do not live where I live. I have 4 cameras and I use only one. I do not mind anyone else using them.
Domp worry things would be good for you.

i know you think im just a dumb kid but im not, after all this one i did get on my own I bought a padded case for this one, and i refused to let anyone else use it. As far as getting it lost/stolen. im taking full respobsibility for my actions. right now im just trying to know where i go from here. the best case scenario is that i can find a way to get it replaced from i guess an insurance company or so. i dont really know. i was asking cause maybe i missed something on my warranty that i can do to get it replaced because ive had friends who have gotten phones stolen and got a full replacement no problem, i was hoping its along those lines, or even to figure out a way i dont have to pay it off any more to best buy if i report it stolen.. if you cant tell im just utterly confused.

im sorry "NstiG8tr" if come off really bad to you. Honestly swear to god im responsible in every way just unlucky with this. i pay for everything i have my car, my school, i have no debts.... i understand the concept of money and responsibility. i just came for help because i was upset and desperate for answers.if i inconvienced you by doing so, well i guess i can only apolgize.

Domp apologize to anybody, just learn something from it.

I have a simple formula (otherwise I am very forgetful person):

Don't forget to remember.

What does this mean?

It means that make it a habit that whenever you put something somewhere, tell yourself that you have put this thing here and you have to remember it. (to pick it up).
Yes tell yourself at that very instant.

Once you make this a habit you will be careful with your things whenever or where ever you put them.

I agree with NstiG8tr.

Is your "Bad Luck" pure disregard for your possesions?

The only way you are going to get anything back is if you paid for an insurance policy that covers damage/theft. Either that, or you/your parents have a decent home insurace policy that covers contents away from the home.

If I were you, I wouldn't take stuff like that to school.

As for your friends mobile phones, in the UK at least, you ALWAYS get asked if you want to buy insurance for your phone. With the cost of some of these things, it makes sense as if something happens, it gets replaced.

If you are being genuine, I feel bad that you have lost a third camera, though there is only one person to blame.

Go to your 'friends' who lost your second camera and ask them for $50 each to help replace it. And don't lend expensive things to your friends anymore.

You might want to check with Best Buy. On their credit cards they have something called account shield, and if you got that when you signed up for the card, you're covered for loss.

Otherwise, you're not, and there's nothing that Best Buy can do. But check on the account shield.

A couple months ago I bought a new pocket camera, and it fell out of my bag and landed right on the concrete and didn't work. I got it on my AMEX, and luckily, it was within 90 days so they covered the accidental damage. I just got my check from them on Friday and picked up a new sd870is, so I got pretty lucky.

Agree and then buy yourself a good 2nd hand one. At least that will get you a camera for now.
