Alice...William called me this morning and said a Challenge came up last night for Fauna. Do we want to change this to the 6th??? so we can possibly get some entries for the challenge??? Fauna Challenge ends 10-9. If you can't...no worries. I may do it both days.

Eve, I checked with the Safari people and I can change my ticket without penalty, so if it's the choice of the group to go on the 6th, I'm okay with that.

Please let me know when the decision is "final" as to which day we are going and I will change my ticket then.

Didn't you all read the special rules for the Fauna challenge?

"Pictures may not be taken during a DPC GTG, particularly at safari parks in Northern California."

'>P Dang. Sorry I'm gonna miss this one. I may have to sit out this week ... what with William's new 800mm beast, and the leaf peepers back East filling up the flora challenge, there's gonna be little room for the rest of us! lol

Have fun all. Looking forward to seeing your images.

No worries. Maybe we can do this again in the spring and I will give people lots more advance notice. I only just found this place recently.
As for the 800MM beast...lol...I can only hope that I get at least one decent shot that will be IN FOCUS!!!

Alice :)
Executive decision! I emailed William and let him know you can change your ticket. Let's do it! I will call tomorrow morning and get my ticket.

Okay, I have successfully transfered my ticket from the 13th to the 6th at 9:00am. I will meet you all there rather than try for an early breakfast...

Is it just the three of us?

I think it's just the three of us unless someone else made reservations and has not indicated so here in the thread. Hopefully others will show up and surprise us :)

Alice and William - they have a restaurant on site that we could chose to have lunch at 12:00 but reservations are required. They prepare the meals based on advanced reservations. Do we want to eat there? Or go somewhere else afterwards? Lunch is $15.00 per person. If we want to eat there...we need to make reservations tomorrow. Please let me know what you think.

I like that idea a lot, Eve. Last time I visited, I had their breakfast which was quite nice as I remember. Would be nice to try lunch and that way perhaps stay in the area for more photography.

Will you make a reservation for me as well as yourself, please.

FYI - I spoke to Safari West this morning and we will have additional opportunities to catch the fauna on camera during/after lunch but we won't be able to wander too far off. I'm going to TRY to make it up there early early in the morning to take advantage of the emerging light. And of course...have time to stop on the way in case I see something interesting for the flora challenge.
Looking forward to this...see you in the AM

How come they told me a totally different answer? I hate that.

Well, as usual, this was a splendid GTG even if it was just three. Eve had a splendid suggestion and ran with it. I'm posting a few pictures - but in deference to anyone who wants to submit to the various upcoming challenges (including me) they are of the general variety.

I would go back in a hot minute even though I was there once before. The guide/drivers of the WW2 vintage vehicles, are young, enthusiastic and helpful. Eve tells me that a party of 10 photographers can have a special tour for $10 over the usual price of $62. Might be something to shoot for... But there's plenty of easy photography in the cheep seats. Lunch is a delicious bargain at $15. Okay, enough of a commercial, on to the pictures:

Staging area... Some terrain pictures......,.....and the safari vehicle...

Thanks so much for posting these images Alice. I was so concentrated on getting the challenge entries that I forgot about the terrain and the people.
Would love to go back in the spring when the hills are green and lush.
