With some of the negative threads I've read lately, I'm glad to start this one. I've been active on this site pretty regularly since I joined in 2005 with a 3 megapixel P&S camera and the idea that I could take great photos. I remember striving for and achieving my first "5" and then my first "6". I've shared my family photos and my travels on this site and have been pleased at the response.

I invested in a DSLR and did quite a bit of self searching in order to find my niche. I discovered it was not what I was best at but what I enjoyed the most and dubbed myself a "street and event photographer". My job requires me to travel to many motorcycle events and i started shooting these from my point of veiw.

Well the response has been almost overwhelming! Alone in 2007 I've had more than 150 photos appear in local and regional motorcycle magazines and today I was notified by the publisher of two national magazines, American Iron and Road Bike, that I'm invited to submit photos for publication! They "very much like the way I see and photograph events". I'm floating on air! It may not turn out to be anything or it could be the launch every photographer hopes to get. Either way, the invite is something I always remember and will fuel stories for the children and hopefully grandchildren.

The point of this thread, however, is to give credit to this site for my growth and improvement as a photographer. Everyone here without exception has helped me, whether it be criticism or encourgement every comment has been helpful. (and therefore I DO check the Helpful comment box almost every time)

There may be persons that I disagree with sometimes but I've learned to respect their opinions and try and learn from them.

Anyway, without rambling too long here are some of my favorite photos that I believe opened the door. Thank you for letting me share and thank you in general!

This is great. I know people have a great time at those events and it's fantastic that they have a good person to document it.

That's great to find your niche and get noticed! Toot your horn a bit. (Actually, you should toot it a lot, it's hard to hear tooting over all those Harley's!)

Not only that, all but two of the photos are from charity rides that benefited the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Childrens homes and Special Olympics. It's been a pleasure to be around such generous people. They're pretty cool too! Oh yeah, for those in the know, that IS Hugh King and Los Lonely Boys!

It's so nice to hear that people are able to use their photography in other venues!

Glad that you have found a niche in which to use it and express yourself with your photography!

See....

This is what DPC is all about.

people should stop whining and see the good in DPC.

Everyone is quick to complain about the negative and overlook the positive.

GOOD FOR YOU! I wish you the best in the future!!

Congratulations! Enjoy your success. Thanks for posting the images too. I'd really like to see an unobstructed view of the '57 Chevy with the red flames. heheheh I really like the image with the US flag and all the motorcyle "stuff" in a blur in the background. Nice image.

Thanks. That's a nice looking ride. Always enjoy looking at the 55,56,57 chevys. First car I drove was a '56 2 door 150 series. Only a 250 six, but it was bored .060 so it was probably 300. It was big for a six. Three on the column. Was my Dad's car, he bought it brand new and kept it for 30 years.
