I have stopped voting on 100% of some of the challenges, because giving out 3's and 4's seems more the norm these days than not. My average score given has began to plummet because I think the quality of the majority of entries have been sub par. Oh, don't get me wrong, there have been some real jewels, but I'm speaking in generalities.
It has nothing to do with the fact that my scores haven't been great, so no sour grapes. Is anyone else feeling the same trends? |

I wonder if as the better photographers we become, we see more 'problems' with a photo and mark it more harshly.

After reading your post,  Jutilda, I went to look at my ave. score given, and it has dropped a tad recently - I think it was around 5.82 a couple of months ago but I'm not sure:
5.7993
I'm sure it will go back up slightly after the free study - usually there are a lot of gorgeous photos to score well in those. |

Yes I think so too!!!! And I agree with what Shadowi6 said - as I improve (or think I do) I am more picky, but I always thought I had an eye for a good photo. It is subjective, but I am seriously disappointed with most of the latest entries overall. (sigh) |

| Ya know how "they" say when you are subjected to seeing violence over and over (such as the movies, the news, etc.) you become desensitised to it? I think the same thing comes into play here. We see these stunning images every challenge and everything else starts to pale in comparison. Images that we used to think were great are suddenly 3 worthy. Sigh... It's quite depressing really, since the ones that we used to think are great really still are good and probably do not deserve that 3. It's only in comparison to the Icelandic sunset, or the Canon beach shot or that brillant flower macro with beautiful bug shot that the first image becomes 3 worthy. |

| Maybe, but I think the overall quality has declined. Maybe some of the really great people have left and the newbies are finding their wings, so to speak. There are SOOO many more members now too. Used to be 200 entries at best. Now look at Free Study with over 600. AUGHHHHHHH |
