Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

All of a sudden, my Rebel is doing this:

on every photo.

Anybody have any ideas? Something I can fix? Or do I need to go buy an XTi?

Looks like your shutter failed/is failing. Best Buy is open for a few more hours!

They quoted $280ish for my 30D before they agreed to fix it under warranty. Don't know if it would be less for the 300D or not. Call Canon & ask. :)

Canon replaced the shutter on my 350XT a month or two back and it cost me $250 or so (cannot remember exactly). I'm using the 350XT as a back-up camera these days. Considering the number of models released since the 300D it might be worth considering putting the $250 into a new body. There are some pretty good deals out there these days.

Just to add that the Canon service center on the East Coast, NJ, did the job quickly and well.
