Would be nice to have a general place for leaving comments on a photographers profile oh a whole... rather than having to leave one for a specific photo only.

Excellent idea - I second that :)

... and this would achieve what exactly? Would it be a vehicle whereby one could leave a general comment on the totality of the images... a sort of one size fits all comment placement.

We might also consider devising a mechanism where we could comment on the comments left by each photographer, or the scores they dole out, just so we have a true image of what exactly people think of this individual.

Sorry, I truly cannot see the added value to this one.

Well i was thinking in the lines of the following...

First, yes a totality type comment... it allows someone to comment on a photographer as a whole... I can click on each picture and type love it for the 500 photos he/she has posted or i can make a comment in a general area on their profile (that others can see as well) about them or his/her consistently applying a technique amazing well.

There are several people on this site that comment frequently through several challenges, or provide great information for others in tutorials or via the forums and it would be nice to be able to thank them in a more public way then a private email message to them. You can't get this by leaving a ty message in a board as no new members would see it unless they went back through every forum message to find it.

If you see a gallery done by someone you can post a question to them or ask about their equipment if you notice they have a particular lens or camera etc you are interested in.

As well, if you leave a comment on a photo, a user has to actively check for new comments by either knowing the comment count or clicking on each picture in their profile to see if any new ones were left (that leads to the email notification i mentioned in a diff thread).

Because this is the photographer's profile... they would have final say as to which comments are displayed or shown in this general section (or advanced feature, ban a specific user from commenting)... that would be to prevent flaming.

Its also another way to get to learn about the photographer by seeing what others say.

Anyways... just a thought. Personally, I don't really care for the private email method.
