I went through most of the Rebel manual and didn't get to the part about having to format your CF card before it's first use until the very end, and unfortunately, I'd already taken 40 product shots that took me a couple of hours to get right. So....uploading to my computer, halfway through the first image I got a card error. So, I didnt' like that test shot, so deleted it. Now NOTHING works at all.
Suggestions?

Swear a lot? Then jump in your car, give ME your camera (as it's obviously dangerous to your mental health), and by a disposable one. :-P
If it's any consolation, I screwed up both of my smart media cards for my camera by using them in my mp3 player, which alters them slightly and makes the useless in my camera, I was a happy camper that day! Luckily my parents came to the rescue and paid for a brand, new, bigger card! Your parents don't happen to really like you do they?

Hmm I don't think the 2 things you mentioned are related, just a coincedence. I'm pretty sure that I didn't format my CF card before I used it (I didn't even read the manuel, lol), and everything works fine. I think you were just unlucky :(

I had some CF issues not long ago and used a free download trial of PhotoRescue that worked wonders. There are some other (free) programs mentioned in this thread.
Good Luck!

unfortunately I didn't have time to fiddle with the card so I just deleted the pics, formatted the card, and now it works great. I really am not sure what happens but I'll have to get one of the before mentioned programs for security in case it happens again.
Thanks for the suggestions,

Even I have experienced similar problem, I have used linxcel reader for card it has killed two of my cards, the cards now give me card error when I use it.
All I did was used linxcel 6 in 1 card reader to read my pictures in my card after that whenever I use my cards it, my camera says there is a card error.
I don't know how to fix it, I don't want to buy new one and I am sure if I use Linxcel's 6 in 1 card reader it would corrupt new card any suggestions let me know thanks,

It's my bet that there is nothing "wrong" with the cards at all, just that the camera no longer usnderstands some aspect of how they are formatted or how they have been written to. Try reformatting thenm in-camera. And switch to a different reader.
