Anyone heard about this, something like 10x resolution of all current L series lenses? Rumour suggests its called the "Infinity" ( i ) series. Probably no more than speculation, but comes from a very reputable source of mine who has been 100% accurate with every other Canon release (lenses & bodies). OMG, the L series reduced to the semi-pro, serous amateur level.

This makes sense as the current lenses are reaching the edges of their resolivng power with the new sensors being released.

Sounds lovely. I don't think I'll be affording any of these in a hurry, but it would be nice if it means cheaper L series. :)

All I want is a fast 100-400mm lens. The current lens is 4.5-5.6 which loses a LOT of light. A fixed f/2.8 would be awesome (and probably both huge and hugely expensive). But even a fixed f/4 shouldn't be too big to carry. One can only dream.... :-)

If the L glass works just fine with any Canon digital camera currently available, that must mean they are close to coming out with the next generation of sensors and digital cameras. Now that could be real interesting. :D

The Canon rep I spoke with back in March said a 21/22mp body was coming BUT that the current lenses couldn't resolve to the level of detail the camera sensor was capable of.
He said the redeisgn of the 85 1.2 and 16-35 2.8 were done for the new camera.

I had heard over a year ago a rumour that canon would be introducing a line of MF bodies...perhaps this is that?

No, canon are far too classy for that, as soup says, the first two lenses will be (for example) 24-70 f1.8i and 70-200 f2i

from what I have heard, the optics have been completely redesigned from the ground up, allowing insanely fast lenses at sizes/weights comparable to what we are seeing already.

Thought the marketing propaganda around the new 1D body was that they were shooting for a mpix count in that series to become competitive in an arena currently owned by med format.

New glass always nice. Would also be nice if the current sensor could resolve what the current glass is throwing at it...
