I'd appreciate any comments (positive, negative, neutral) on my new website. //s94593549.onlinehome.us/

The galleries are divided into two categories - family and non-family. The non-family section will be more interesting to the majority of this group since the family pics include many run-of-the-mill candids (b'days, holidays, etc). Two caveats: 1) It is very much a work in progress; and 2) I have no website design experience so hyper-technical suggestions may be lost on me.

Photography is a favored hobby. I enjoy this site and hope to have more time to devote to challenges (have really only shot for one challenge - my first was a shot taken in the ordinary course of being a dad, then I found this site and the pic fit the dates/theme).

Most of the shots on my website are straight from the camera. Come to think of it, I'd also like any comments on individual pics (likes/dislikes) - might as well learn more than just about website look/functionality if anyone is willing! I'm particularly interested in post-processing so if you like a pic but think it could be better with processing, let me know how.

Thanks for your time and any comments you might have.

Thanks for fixing/posting the link, and for the comments. My favorite section is the golf/scenic section (but then I'm a golf fanatic), followed by some of the miscellaneous pics (water drops are done by everyone, but I like the one in the orange bowl), the cadids/portraits and a couple of the spider macros. (Perhaps I'm too partial to my own pics??) :-)

Yeah, my son likes being on the big screen with the characters...If I re-shoot those, I'll shine a flashlight on his face since the movie screen is comparatively bright...best one from that aspect is with Roz from Monsters, Inc., though my favorite is of Bruce from Finding Nemo...my son kept looking over his shoulder on that one!

Matt, I think you did a fantastic job - my only suggestion would be for you to spring for the $5.99 a year and give yourself a gift of a domain name so that you can give it out more easily to family and friends!

I'm going to do that. Wanted to see if I could get the d*mn thing working first! Thanks for the kind words.

Nice site. Well done navigation, pictures come up fast, easily gotten around. I like the golf shots, too. No broken links and - best of all - no plug ins I have to get.

Good job.

Thanks Catherine. I checked out your website and see I have much to learn. Much cleaner, and the images load without re-drawing the entire page (like mine does)....have to figure out how to do that since it is much less distracting...my site was created with a program that basically does everything by itself, so I'm not sure what, why, how it's doing what it does.

Did you do that through 1and1's website creator? Comes out looking pretty damn good. Always a sucker for blue. Went through a giant pain in the butt trying to get it to work for me. But then again 1and1 does not support Mac AT ALL. I put Gallery up for my family pics. Works great so far.
I am almost done with designing mine in PS and over to GoLive. Here is the generic page, without any links yet. there of course will be more timed pics, etc. How does it look on others monitors? New template page.
Any web gurus out there? This is all a table, how can I make it expandable (the whole thing and not just the background) to fit larger monitors. I designed the page for 800x600, but my screen is 1680x1050. I know there is something somewhere I haven't looked at yet. Trying to learn GoLive.

Thanks for the note. I did it with NetObjects Fusion (I think that's the name) - came free with the free 1and1 hosting package. The 1and1 website creator seemed nice (simple, which for me is nice), but it was too slow to upload - especially with as many pics as I put on my page.

As for your template - Very nice, love the look and feel. The color pic really pops off of the page (in a good way!).

I wish alll those programs were avaialble to me. Seems like some good ones for this (web pages) and also conferencing software and the like. But lowly Mac ussers can't ahve and I asked if they had suggestions for programs that will work for it, but no response.
I would say that the domain name is a plus also, especially for $6 a year. Thanks

I don't know that I qualify as a guru - but what you can do for tables is reasonably simple. Instead of defining its size in integer values, use a percentage (I recommend 90%) - so instead of _table width="750"_ as an example, you use _table width="90%"_. THis way your design is somewhat "fluid" - it will fill the same relative space on every monitor.

The same process can be used for vertical dimensioning - be aware vertical and horizontal alignment once you make the changes - you might want to center in both directions.

Good luck.
