I was considering the invisible shield option, but they don't have the 40D listed. I wrote to them yesterday, and this is the answer I got today:
"...We do not currently offer the Canon EOS 40D or have plans to release one at this time.
If you would like you could purchase another shield that you think may fit your item, however all of our shields are custom made and designed for the product that they are named after and so none of the other shields may work as well for your device.
If you would like to place a custom order you may do so at the following URL: //www.shieldzone.com/custom-orders/ "
Hmmmm..... now what? I bet if a few more people wrote to them about the 40D, they'd add it to their list!
So how about a DPC "attack" on them? |

Do they have one for the EOS 1D Mark III?
That is the same screen as the 40D, if my information is correct.

| I'm still hoping they WILL make one for the 40D. That way, if something isn't right with it, they should take care of it. |

You don't need to stinkin' LCD cover.
My 300D never scratched.
My 20D never scratched (and i got it used - it's fine)
My 30D has 50,000 shots on it - and for weddings it gets no special treatment - buttons on shirts, belt buckles, etc. No marks of any kind.
I have a GPS receiver with the same kind of LCD cover - it's been abused - dropped on rocks, sticks, dirt, pavement, kept in a tool box for a while and a backpack often (with non-soft items). Not a mark on the screen. Not one. Nothing.
Spend your money on something useful. |

I hear you and you DO have a point.
The sticky thing on my 20D looks much like the day I put it on there, so I was going to be all brave and go "nude".
Then I lay eyes on that wonderful, shiny, HUGE screen and caved in right away :-( |

First one this big I saw was on the 1D mk3 back in March. I was taking a class from Michele Celentano and she's one of the Canon Explorers of Light and she had a 1D mk3 for 'testing' - canon wanted sample images for ads and the like. She referred to the big LCD as a 'polaroid' - cause it IS that big! |

I use a sticky from "Navprotector" on my Fuji S3, at 3 for $ 11 US. I change it about once a year.
Turtle wax polishing compound will rub out a lot of the scratches that get in LCD screens, but not the deepest ones. I just worked my Nextel phone over with it, and brought it from being so scratched that I could no longer read the phone numbers back to being almost as good as new except for one deep scratch. It took about 5 minutes with the compound and a soft rag over one finger.

Great idea... it just might prod them into making one of these for the 40D if they knew there is already a market for them.
