I'm not sure if this will work but with all the wonderfull PP skills being displayed and the different taste and methods I thought this might be fun as part of the Sept B&W Side Challenge.
I have uploaded a full size (2.42 mb) .jpg image with just a couple of minor RAW adjustments made to it, your challenge is to edit it to B&W in any way you like and repost here as a standard size DPC image.
There is only one request for learning purposes please include your editing steps so that others may attempt them and learn from them.
Photo here WARNING Large file 2.42mb
Please post your edited version in this thread.
EDIT: Please feel free to comment on all photo's!

Went for an old b/w feel
Processing Steps:
Levels
Hue/Sat- desaturated using channel mixer - red bright%, yellow 100%, all others 0%
Second Levels adjustment - masked out house (highlighted only sky/ trees to bring out details on trees and reduce sky glare)
Photo filter (warming filter 81)
Gradient filter to increase contrast
Noise Ninja
Dodged and burned around house to boost highlights
Save for web
USM small radius

Click on the photo in the OP. That should open the image in it's own new browser window. Then right-click/save-as the image to your hard drive.

Learn something new every day. :) I've never seen that before, and I had to look pretty hard to find it this time. :P |

So many ways to skin a cat!! I don't follow any formulas but do it by eye as I go along. This one took a duplicate layer for highpass mixed under soft light at 60%, then an initial adj. layer for levels, then 2 adjustment layers for hue/sat, the first to adjust sat and lightness of reds and greens, the second to desat the whole thing, then, another levels layer for burning selected areas. Then resizing to 720 and finally noise-ninja with usm.

USM a lot then changed the sky a bit darker. Sharpened and cropped a bit. I wanted to make it like an old photo that was a little overexposed. |

Son of a gun - this is really similar to the other edit I was goofing around with. The perspective of the porch going into the woods is actually pretty cool - you did a nice job with cropping.

I know this is not what Node wanted to see in the first place, but, personally, I like this picture in color more so than in B&W.

Thanks...I had fun doing it. Did a lot of tweaking with the dodge and burn...to lighten the whites, darken and clean up the shadow areas and to try to bring out the trees in the distance more. Not particularly happy with my burn job on the trees though.
Would be a fun side challenge in the future to have people process an image daily. Guess it would have to be limited to 31 people though.

For something very similar, visit Smurfguy's Post Processing Challenge page. One person submits a photo, everyone else does post processing on the photo, then everyone votes on the best one.
