i had an interesting day the other day...i had to go to jail.
well, it wasn't really a jail, it was a prison farm, operated by the state of virginia's department of corrections. they are in the process of rolling out a new rehabilitation program were select prisoners are offered the opportunity to learn to work with horses--specifically retired thoroughbreds. during this rolling out process, they rehabed an old barn and prepared it for the arrival of 7 horses. my assignment was to be there to cover the arrival and introduction of the horses to the inmates who would be caring for them. i've got to admit, this was a really cool experience. i hope this program is as successful here as it has been in some other places.

Great shots as usual Skip. I've seen this same sort of program, only with dogs that they were training for the blind. It was very successful, so I think this should be as well.

My SIL has been wanting to start the same kind of thing for teens for years.

Cool experience, great shots -- it's nice to see that those guys are capable of caring and a few of them even let some smiles escape. :) |
