Would any of you experts possibly share your expertise on shooting a Balloon glow? It starts at 7:30 pm and goes til around 10 pm. What settings have you used that seem tried and true? I own a Canon 30D.
Thanks to all for any suggestions!

Well, here's an example....

Not sure about tried and true, but play around with your settings and see what you can do with it. I shot one without a tripod, but they were just shooting up the open flames without balloons on top and there was plenty of light. It wouldn't hurt to bring one along just in case.

Get some rest, set iso to 400 or 800. Take lots of memory cards, have fun. Look at the LCD and adjust. You may have to shoot manual focus to get the shots you want, as the light level will be changing rapidly with the flames going on and off.
Oops, I misread the 7:30 as AM. A monopod if you have one is a great tool for this kind of activity. You can also use it with a remote or self timer to elevate the camera and get high angle shots over the crowd that others will not be getting.

I used the same settings I shoot for fireworks, so a lower ISO is OK.

That's a great idea, i've never thought of that.

Balloons are dynamic, and always moving. It is easy to get motion blur at low shutter speeds.

Thanks so much for your advice. I'm hoping to get some good shots.
I'll try all of your suggestions.
I really appreciate them all!
