Kinda rash to request a self-DQ an hour after rollover. Why not wait a few days? The risk should have been obvious before the voting started, but you never know... maybe the voters won't appreciate heavily filtered entries either. ;-) |

Yes he is! I was very impressed with that particular entry. |

You may:
apply filters, effects, dodge & burn, and other tools to all or part of your entry, but NO new shapes or features may be created in the process.
|
For the most part, "features" = shapes/physical things. IMO, as long as everything significant in the original is still visible in the entry and no new objects are created (starbursts, for example), we leave it to the voters. It's worth noting, however, that you can make some surprising effects without PS. |
The only benefit I see in doing it in camera (besides avoiding a DQ at DPC) is it forces you to be the author of the effect where as in photoshop often you are simply choosing to apply someone else's pre-programed effect. Now if you're creating your own effects and whatnot from scratch then I'd put it on par with what is achieved in-camera. In the end good results is all that should matter.

You May NOT:
use ANY editing tool to move, remove or duplicate any element of your photograph that would change a typical viewer̢۪s description of the photograph (aside from color or crop), even if the tool is otherwise legal...
Let's hope SC is strict about this one. |
I don't understand what you are getting at here fotomann_forever. Are you suggesting that filters are not allowed at all? I am confused by your statement in response to HawkeyeLonewolf's statement. |

Not meaning to sideline the discussion of pp filtering but it looks like the DPC voting crowd may be a lot like the group that was around when Monet started the impressionist game. They certainly seem to be looking for sharpness instead of impression of color and movement for the most part.
4.6+ for my image right now, with 13 votes. I think it is going to sink and stink. At least that's my impression. I guess that I shoot for what I see instead of trying to shoot what seems the norm.

If you take off the two suckers who voted first...an 8 and a 7...it would be a 3.84.

This post really needs to be framed and mounted. Speaking of which, looks like many will be able to win this very nice award!

Just suggesting that if a photo completely relies on a photoshop filter that it violates the spirit of that rule.

So, should all the challenges be basic or minimal editing? There is a large grey line somewhere between doing what you can do within the rules, and not being allowed to use available tools to achieve an effect that you want.
My image is still bumping along about 4.5, no validation requests yet. Still ok with me.
Can we add the score of two challenges together to make one better score and one DQ ? Maybe I can do it in PP.

Looks like I am underwelming the crowd with a nice but not that "wow" of a shot- a perfect 5.0. I think I made the right move to make it more like a painting and less blury. At least I hope so. I didn't expect to be top ten on this anyways.

Maybe voting is backward on this challenge. The lower the score, the more impressionistic the image. LOL.

My eyes! My eyes! I just finished voting them all. A wide range of quality and a wide range of ways to try to achieve the "impressionism" effect. This one is hard to vote. I spent more time on each one than I normally would have. There were some that probably were great photos originally but I felt did not work the way they treated them for here. Otherw would have been uninteresting to me without the way they were handled for the challenge.
There was one that I felt was absolutely stunning and a couple others I really thought were great. I did give out more low scores than I normally would too. See how they do. Me? I have dipped below a five for now.
I need to go to bed now and give my eyes a break. Everything seems a bit blury right now. |

So you are one of them. You are responsible for my 5.x score in this challenge.
(thanks for voting though). |

The work here is amazing. Fifty 10, I gave firty 10's.
I loved the work, so many great photos and treated so beautifuly.
If someone sees his score in the middle 7; maybe he should not get his hopes up too much.
I think the winners will be 8+ and very high 7's
Good luck all.
