I guess, with your tongue planted so firmly in your cheek...I missed your point. What was it again?
PS...I have a great sense of humor...
A young reporter went to a retirement home to interview an aged but legendary explorer. The reporter asked the old man to tell him the most frightening experience he had ever had.
The old explorer said, "Once I was hunting Bengal tigers in the jungles of India. I was on a narrow path and my faithful native gun bearer was behind me. Suddenly the largest tiger I have ever seen leaped onto the path in front of us. I turned to get my weapon only to find the native had fled. The tiger lept toward me with a mighty ROARRRR! I soiled myself."
The reporter said, "Under those circumstances anyone would have done the same."
The old explorer said, "No, not then -- just now when I went ''''ROARRRR!''''"

On a more serious note, as stated before I don't really care a lot about the score and if I'm voted down on technicalities I take it as a learning thing. But kinda mystified when I'm told I'm getting a LOW score because they don't like the main subject of the photo and score has nothing to do with meeting the challenge I just don't get it...
BTW I'm not trying to call anyone out just ranting a bit :D

I am getting the sense that people are not comfortable with leaving comments. I wasn't at first either but then I wondered if anyone can learn anything from a no comment vote. I realized that I am having more trouble with 1 comment then I would with 100 whether good or bad. I went back and commented on a total of 53% so far. I might do the rest as well. I believe that if we each submitted an entry then we ought to have an opinion, good or bad.
This is a tough challenge and it is a great learning experience. I am almost to the point of finding the nugget in the painful and only comment I received thus far. I am thinking that I missed the challenge ideal and I am OK with that.
Please stand up for your vote and be brave enough to leave a comment. Try to find the good parts and point them out as well even if you vote really low.

I have just finished voting on all of the impressionism submissions and commenting on about 1/2.
Impressionism uses, choice of subject, light/dark, colour and texture to create it's unique look. Many photos were great but not all took all aspects into consideration. Taking a happy snap with no real thought going into the subject matter, composition etc and just applying a filter isn't going to do it.
I love that we have had a challenge where the use of a filter (to a stronger degree than normal) is appropriate and acceptable (I love artie fartie). Even some of the ones I marked lower I loved but I felt that they didn't suit the challenge as well as they could have.
Mine is in the high 5's and I am happy as this is where I thought it would sit.
I will continue with the comments so that I have commented on 100% of the submissions. |

It has much more to do with the fact that there are about 600-1000 pictures for people to vote on each week and commenting on even 10% is a lot to ask. I try and leave as many comments as I can, but generally do so when I see an insanely good image, one that touches me, or one that I can very quickly come to a reason why the image did not work... |

I have to admit that I have been a little lax in the voting and commenting department lately. I have been so busy that I haven't had time to put in the entries I would have liked to, never mind voting. At the moment I do what I can when I can.
However, I have been sitting on 99 votes for most of the day and am itching to get a little further. Most of you have probably been sleeping and are just waking up now. So I will sign off now and do the same. See you in the morning. |

OK, I have now gotten 3 times as many comments and I have a better understanding of why my image is getting panned and the comments are helping me understand more about my entry and what I could have done better.

My score has improved some by the extra 5 votes between now and last night my timezone. However, I am more interested in reading what people have to say than I am about the score. I can not learn from the score alone.
I understand what it takes to comment with so many entries to vote each week and we can each only do what is within our time allotment for this site. We all have other things going on in our lives other than DPC.
