Okay...so this is the first time this has happened to me.

Me and a model agreed to shoot TFCD (trade for CD) and she would get 5 high resolution edited photos and 15% for any photo I use and sell in stock (if a photos sold). The next day, she sent me an email and said could she pay to have all the photos. Now I'm stuck coming up with a price.

I took about 350 photos. Assuming I get rid of all the blurry unusuable photos...that leaves about 2 photos...j/k. Leaves about 280 p photos. I of course don't plan on editing 280 photos so she would get them unedited.

My question is how much would you charge for all the unedited photos and how much would you charge for each additional edited photo over the 5 you already agreed upon??????

Thanks.

Are you talking about selling your rights, or only about editing and preparing more photos for printing?

hmm..I guess that is a good question. I don't really plan on selling the rights to them, but she wants to be able to use all photos...so would assume unedited included not just edited.

I'd say your take on both...selling the rights and just preparing more for printing.

Does she know how many photos are involved? Does she really need 280 pics??? :-) I would imagine that you probably have groups of very similar shots?
I would have an issue with giving her unedited raw/original files. Reason being, she doesn't know what she is doing with them, and shows them off (as your work) and they are not edited, tweaked, looking like you would like them, you know, a final polished product.

Perhaps you could treat them as proofs, go through them with her and let her pick which ones she would actually like, and you can give her finished print files for those, with a set rate per image or something like that. That way, she gets what she wants, and you aren't wasting time editing, and know that you are only putting out work you are happy with.

There's a guy in KC that charges $650 for three "looks", but then he has a stylist and MUA....

Anyways, just put a web slideshow up and let her choose her favorites and work it down to just 5-10 of those. It's hard to come away with much more than that for any shoot anyways.

You could look at it another way too... if you think your images with her in them will sell as stock, swap her for the images with no percentage from any prints sold. That's one less thing you have to keep track of.

If you don't expect to sell any and she is going to use the images to just show for potential modeling jobs, I'd sell them with the right to use in her portfollio for about $50 if I didn't have to do any more than some quick work on them... like batch color and level adjustments. You want to leave the door open for more work from her or anyone she knows. Especially if she should start getting a lot of jobs and meeting more models.

I'm not too worried about her meeting new models and not working together again. I modeled and know enough models. I've also shot several other models whom I'm still great friends with and love shooting with.

I determined last night that she in no way is getting unedited photos. And if she wants any edited photos above the 5 offered, I'd sell them to her for $50 each (for the purposes of promoting her modeling career..not for publishing) and she'd forfeit her 15% from stock sales on all photos above the 5 originally promised to her.

$50 seems a bit much, but if she will pay it then go for it. Good luck, and I agree with you decision not to provide her with any unedited. That would not be good.
