Ok, so I'm finding myself in need of a 'professional' website. I have web space already but I am just not savvy enough to implement a decent photo gallery without losing my mind, apparently, so now I want to know if there are web hosting companies that specialize in photographer galleries that DON'T charge an arm and a leg. I have someone working on customizing a nice photo gallery template for me (it's very fancy and complicated) but in the meantime, I really need something (either on my site or the host's) where I can point people to see my work until I get this all figured out.

Any suggestions? Like I said, I have webspace, so if someone has a bare-bones 'easy' to install gallery that i could just plug into my site, that would work. Or if there is a company that rents just a few pages of gallery space to photographers. I don't need the ability to sell prints or anything, not yet anyway

I like Postcardviewer through Picasa. With my background as a web developer I was able to insert it into my normal website pages. There is also the ever popular Simpleviewer by the same Flash developer.

Postcardviewer looks neat, but its a bummer that portrait oriented shots get cut off at the top and bottom. I wonder if that can be changed?

Yes. It is a function of changing the zoom percentage in the "imagedata.xml" file. You'll see a line that looks like this:

If you have Photoshop you can use it to make galleries.

Go-to:
File
Automate
web photo gallery

It is very easy...
