I upgrade everything, so I will upgrade and have a D300...would rather the D3, but want to stay married a little longer... :) |

Manufacturers go for the cheapest option...and CMOS are cheapest to make than CCD. So, yeah, maybe at 1600 ISO, you will see a big difference between the D200 and D300...though, at lower ISO...that is another story.
On the other hand, if you want to have pictures which have grainy effects (without spending too much time with Photoshop), ISO 1600 is perfectly acceptable and works just fine with CCD sensors. I took more than many decent pictures with my D70 at ISO 1600, and they were completely usable.
The argument that a camera should produce less and less noise at higher ISO just does not work with me.

I'd have to say that the extra is probably not worth it for the D300... the D200 is amazing and you can save the money to get good glass instead... why bother with the minute differences...
If you really want something to make a change, splash out for a D3... I've been considering it myself... I don't need it, but every time I look at the specs I have to take a shower :P... best just to have one I figure :P |

Fyi, DPReview posted their hands-on preview of the D300 yesterday.
Still no sample photos, though.

The Nikon Sales guy was here last week. He confirmed that the D300 "replaces" the D200. |
