The Double - 7/10

The trailer seemingly gives away the plot twist, but then that's what they want you to think. Pretty good, suspenseful, well acted. Overall it satisfied my expectations and washed away the memory of "Red Lights" - mission accomplished.

Horrible

Plot, acting, effects ... All disappoint. I can think of no redeeming feature. I deeply regret spending money for this.

Please ...
Do Not See This Movie. I do not want to encourage this pap.

Pacific Rim - I rate it Awesome!

2 Guns - 8/10

Totally unexpected, buddy/shoot-em-out. The chemistry between Denzel and Marky Mark is fabulous. A couple of plot holes, but highly entertaining, if you like this sort of film. Ed Olmos and Bill Paxton are awesome baddies.

"Crime d'Amour" - 7/10. A good, but not great, film with more than a few twists...better in French.

Hot Coffee - 9/10

A documentary about so-called Tort Reform and so-called frivolous lawsuits. The facts behind the MacDonald case and some other cases as well. It gets a little sentimental at the end, but the rest of the movie is understated and very convincing.

Monsters University 10/10+++

What a relief! No zombies (or Brad Pitt). Alas, no hunky wolverines either.

A movie for both kids AND parents. Funny, sentimental...a strong message movie.

Well worth the price of popcorn!

Percy Jackson - Sea of Monsters 4 / 10

Yes, I'm a meanie and refused the tweenagers' first choice of Elysium. Percy Jackson was the consolation prize.

A story of demi-gods (read: silly skinny teenagers) who save each other and ultimately the world. Typical special effects in 3D.

Skip the movie and read the books, but the Tweenagers gave it a 7 / 10.

Planes - PG - 9/10
A very cute and fun movie. It was great watching our 22yo ASD son enjoy (and even emotionally relate) to the movie. ASD people have no "theory of mind" my a**...

Sound of Noise - 8/10

Too much fun with rebel drummers causing chaos in a city full of sh!~/y music. In Swedish.

I finally saw the Hobbit

9 / 10

Warrior 9/10

A mixed martial arts film. Hmmmm. Generally, sweaty males beating the crap out of each other...well, not on the top of my list, but please put this one on the top of your Netflix list.

A fight movie all about love...who knew?!

Captured my unwilling heart and a refreshing change from 3D special effect heros.

Loved this one 9/10

P.S. Despite the PG-13 rating, not a movie for kids.

Pain & Gain 5/10
A pretty intense and amusing movie with a storyline and plot twists that would be absurdly ridiculous if this wasn't a true story (which the movie uses subtitles to remind the audience of that fact at key points in the movie). Mark Wahlberg did a great job in his role, but overall it left me not liking any of the characters in it. Some gruesome and graphic stuff in it as well.

Olympus Has Fallen 8/10

Good action, good story, maybe a bit far fetched but enjoyable and didn't make me bored!

It was a busy weekend at the movies.

Two Guns - 7/10
I thought Wahlberg and Washington had great chemistry and the movie was very entertaining. The plot was OK, but it was the two main characters that really carried the movie.

Percy Jackson - Sea of Monsters - 5/10
It was an OK movie, but I couldn't get into it as much as the first one. My youngest kids really enjoyed it though, and it was the first live action movie with all the monsters and such that they have seen. I enjoyed the fact that they were able to watch it without getting scared more than anything else.

The Mortal Instruments - City of Bones - 9/10
Loved it, as did my wife and oldest daughter. I expect there will be a few more of these.

R.I.P.D. - 0/10

Yes zero. I struggled to find a reason to give this at least a 1, but no. This movie was dead on arrival. Lousy dialog, lousy story (sure, I knew that going in), and it had the cheesiest CGI effects. Not even the acting skills of Jeff Bridges were enough to make this not feel like a complete waste of time.

This Is the End

A movie containing a lot of my favorite comedians...I had VERY high hopes. Sadly, although good, it could have been even funnier and had a better plot. It was worth 107 minutes of my life, though.

Seven Psychopaths = 9/10 - Brilliant acting by Christopher Walken

A Hijacking (2012) = 7/10 The crew of a Danish cargo ship is hijacked by Somali pirates who proceed to engage in escalating negotiations with authorities in Copenhagen. A decent film but It did drag a little in places.

Trance (2013) = 8/10 - Directed by Danny Boyle. An art auctioneer who has become mixed up with a group of criminals partners with a hypnotherapist in order to recover a lost painting. Enjoyed this very different film a lot.

Hansel & Gretel - Witch Hunters = 8/10. Some excellent special effects make this daft film very enjoyable.

The Double (2011) = 5/10. Richard Gere needs to retire........

Olympus Has Fallen - 1/10 (8/10?)

Wow, what a stinker. And yes, this is so bad that it's good. I actually think you will be entertained at how godawful this is. Particularly fun is the implausibility of every single part of the plot... but not just that, they are detail-oriented about their implausibility, right down to character motivations, like what you imagine a female secretary of defense doing during a hostage crisis.

The "Cerberus" System? hahahahahahahaha

so technically it's a 1 but really it's an 8. I rarely have this much fun watching a movie.

I actually really enjoyed this movie. Not one I would buy and I buy a lot though. I will watch it if it makes it to netflix again though.

Ender's Game 7/10

Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley, and Asa Butterfield...okay, my kids talked me into this. Despite the grand special effects and moving story from a famous book, I felt a bit deflated with a flawless hero, and no true dark villain.

Next week's tweenage choice?

Yes, Thor, The Dark World...stay tuned!

Primer 10/10

Yes it's low budget, and yes, the story is complicated and you'll probably have to watch it more than once, but it's worth it.

Great movie. I'ver owned this for years and always try to show it to people who haven't seen it.

Thor Dark World

7/10

Decent superhero movie, much better than the first one. Had nefarious villains, good special effects, and a sufficient amount of action. It does exactly what's expected of it and nothing more.

World War Z - 7/10

Yup, I liked it a LOT more than I expected. Not a 10 because I felt it was TOTALLY humorless, and there were some plausibility issues (assuming, of course, that zombies are plausible...). But boy, did it keep us on the edge of our seat. And the CGI is quite extraordinary.

Flight
I give this a 9.5 out of 10. This is just simply a well put together movie..
