Just (finally) saw Looper last night. Some cool ideas, but not the best time travel movie. I give it 6.5 out of 10.

Zero Dark Thirty...came out exhausted. Good movie and I'd see it again.

Just saw Les Miserables with my wife. We both left in tears. Fantastic and powerful movie.
9.9/10

my only ding on it was that it took me about 30 minutes to get into the actors they had in the lead roles.
i keep the 10th anniversary recording of the broadway cast in my car and regularly sing along with it at LOUD volumes. i was fine with Jackman/Crowe in the roles by the end once i had accepted that it would not be identical to the version in my mind.

Russell Crowe did well, and a lot better than a lot of people state about his performance. Javert is a VERY hard character to portray because you have to be believable in your unwavering devotion to the letter of the law; yet you have to break in the end, so the transition is hard to pull off, and lets face it, he is an actor and not a broadway singer; given that he did a lot better with the songs than many other actors-not-singers would have.

Brave 8/10. I wasn't really interested in watching so I was reading when my husband dropped in this dvd. It had me sucked in within minutes. A great story with a tomboy for a princess for a change. Love it.

Lincon 9/10

It is rare that an historical film feels authentic, and lets the characters remain fully human. Lincon does a great job bringing history to life, without dumbing it down. Plus it was the best lit movie I have seen in years. Beautiful and deep. It got a bit cute at the end trying to convey motivations that did not help IMHO, hence the 9/10 but well worth seeing on the big screen.

The Bourne Legacy

If you are a fan of the first three movies with Matt Damon, DO NOT watch this movie. It adds absolutely nothing to the story in my opinion.

I am a huge fan of the first three movies and I had no plans on watching this one sionce it did not have Damon or the director from the original ones. However my kids rented it the other night thinking I would enjoy it so I gave it a go. My review can be summed up in 2 words: SU UCKS!

Silver Linings Playbook - I recommend it whole heartedly... Made me smile. MUCH better than your average love story.

End of Watch
R
8/10

Better than I expected. You won't fall asleep during the movie. Fairly good character and relationships development. Pretty much non-stop violence and tension, which tells the story of the ghetto patrol.

Just got back from my time travels.

Star Wars "A New Hope in Money Making" directed by JJ Abrams: 5/10

Not very good but better than the prequels. Spoiler alert... seeing Captain Kirk emerge from that wormhole to save the day for the New "Old" Republic and tell the new Jedi protagonist, Jar Jar Spock that he's his father was just dumb on a grand scale. However, the Cloverfield / Troll Hunter filming style gave the new and slightly less powerful AT-CN Walkers (CN stands for carbon neutral) some much needed ferocity and made the 3 hours this movie lasted somewhat bearable.

Pina 9/10

Incredible documentary about the late dancer/choreographer Pina Bausch through the performances of her students and peers. Directed by Wim Wenders.

Mao's Last Dancer - 7/10

Extra point for making me reach for kleenex...::dainty sniffle::

I liked the story more than the movie and wish I had read the book first.

Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol

6/10 - A good laundry folding movie. ;-)

Wreck-It-Ralph - 8/10

i'm not a big fan of 3D animated movies, but this one is good.
maybe its because i'm a gamer myself so this movie hit the spot just right.
not sure if non-gamers would understand the movie, eg when they talk about game glitches (eg. those who played glitch-able arcade games like the original SF2 where u glitch Guile). enjoyable movie.

Argo! 10/10
Ben Affleck should only direct.

"Beasts of the Southern Wild" 7/10

Not everyone's cup of tea, but really quite good and totally fascinating from a filmmaking perspective. The director co-wrote it based on the play of a friend, directed, helped score and produce the music, used "actors" who had never really acted, filmed it in 16mm and did NOT review dailies, but simply put it all together in the end. The young lady who plays the lead (and is up for an Academy Award) is amazing.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower 9/10 poignant, funny, well written and acted. loses a point because i can't buy that emma watson is an 18 year old.

We just saw "Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" and quite liked it. The characters aren't all that fully developed and it tends towards the saccharine, but anything current with Maggie Smith in it is worth the watching. 8/10

Just watched Avengers last night, I wanted something to test out our newly purchased 55" LCD and blu-ray/surround sound system (we just now got into the modern age of tv's)

For some purely mindless entertainment, it's worth renting.

if some of you are into that Indian fair, its worth a watch.

Second Hand Lions 10/10. It's one of my favorite movies and I watch it periodically. It's heartwarming, funny, and poignant. Ok... I confess, my eyes got a little weepy at the end, but if you tell anyone I'll deny it!

"The Great Gatsby" 8.5/10
The director captured F.S. Fitzgerald’s novella in all of its complex glory, featuring the jazz age. DiCaprio’s performance was energetic, and youthful just like the Fitzgerald’s Gatsby. The cinematography was both mesmerizing and vivid. There was an array of eye candy through the movie. It was a very close adaptation of the book.

Man of Steel - 10/10

I'm normally not a big superman guy, but this movie was one of the best superhero/action movies i have ever seen. I had high exceptions after watching the trailers and it lived up.

the special effects were some of the best i have ever seen, you really got a sense of power from them, the fight scenes brought some major destruction and you could feel the speed and power with which the battles were fought, hell even when superman takes off you can sense the power with which he does. Some of the special effect started in to Micheal Bay eye candy territory but those were short lived thankfully.

The best part was the emotion, i wasn't big on the Lois lane /superman chemistry but Kevin Costner played a great Johnathan Kent and you really could feel Superman's pent up emotions building throughout the movie all the way through to the end and you could see when he dug down deep to harness that energy to propel him through his situation, and when the climax hits, with the final release all that suppressed anger and rage its very satisfying for the audience.

This movie had all of what loved about comic books, the power and awe of the heroes and villains and the humanity and integrity in which the heroes struggle to maintain, far too many times in these movies that emotion cant be tapped properly and instead relies on the visual gimmick to sell the movie, this movies excelled in both parts equally, much to my satisfaction.
