The Expendables

10/10

Almost no story line but copious amounts of violence, fighting, guns and explosions. Everything an action movie should be.

Just read the Wikipedia entry - I take it this isnt a Disney film?

"Mad scientist joins 3 people together `mouth to anus` and they share a digestive tract".

I love date movies like this!

a bit off topic...but still....i've started watching "weeds" and have just watched seasons 1 and 2 the past week (24 minute eps and only 10 per season makes for VERY fast watching) amazing acting, great cast and great twisting storylines...

10/10 for seasons 1&2

Shutter Island - 8/10

Shutter Island

A film I enjoyed very much , I liked the 'look' of the film and thought DiCaprio was very good.

The Invention of Lying - 1/10
waste.of.time. And I am a big Ricky Gervais fan (hence the 1)

City Island - 7/10
Saw this Friday night. Very lighthearted and entertaining. Family dysfunction was a little over the top (typically there's at least one normal person in every family). ;-) Well acted and directed.

strangely enough, tonight I was flipping channels tonight and ended up watching most of "10,000 BC" and was trying to figure out where I saw the main character before and as I was looking for the link for the review above, I saw the name "Steven Strait" and remembered he was the caveman in the movie I saw tonight! Weird. Anyway, I'd give 10kBC 5/10 based on what I saw while flipping between it and Talladega Nights, which I've seen before and still give it 7 or 8 out of 10. Very funny.

there ya go, 3 reviews in 1 post. :)

Prince of Persia - 5/10 I would recommend this movie mostly for children, it has cheap predictable storyline, maybe few good fight scenes and effects

The Joneses - 10/10 Brilliant movie, great cast, and good acting from david duchovny, anyone that is an economist, especially in the marketing field should watch this movie.

The Wolfman - 6/10 Slow pace of the story and 2 hours is too much. Again predictable, few scary&bloody scenes, on the other hand great performances from anthony hopkins, benicio del toro and hugo weaving

The Crazies - 7/10 - Typical survival horror movie, but still this movie kept me tense

Salt - 10/10 - Wow I was expecting something like this from the director Kurn Wimmer since Equilibrium. Fast storyline and tense fighting scenes.

He was a Quiet Man 8/10

Christian Slater is an amazing actor. This movie will make you discuss/theorize the way you do about "Memento"

His Girl Friday (1940)-- 9/10 -- Classic "screwball" comedy-drama starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell

The Manchurian Candidate (1962) -- 8/10 -- Chilling view of America during the McCarthy era still seems relevant today in the current environment of political demonization. This was the original version with Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey and Angela Lansbury, which was effectively suppressed for many years before its re-release in 1987. I haven't seen the more recent re-make.

Finally got around to watching The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Stunning cinematography, including some judicious use of a lensbaby (or the like) in certain scenes. It really is a "freeze frame" viewing experience.

My wife heard that P.S. I Love You was good, rented the dvd. Oh, dear God, what an incredibly bad movie. Good cast, but even within the "chic flick" genre, this was unacceptable. My wife owes me the sci fi or 'splosion flick of my choice. :-) I may get that atrocity of a film Battlefield Earth, though it is not as bad as P.S. I Love You.....

piece of cake, piece of cake

ETA: I would give "jesse james" a 9/10...fantastic on several levels. the only thing keeping it from a 10 is the LENGTH

Grown Ups 10/10
I laughed through about 75% of this movie. It was not too over the top and not too crude. In fact, I must be getting old because the underlying thread of wholesomeness didn't even bother me. Great cast, great chemistry, very very funny.

We saw Border Town, which was pretty good 4/5

We also saw Santa Paws, which I gave 1/5. The movie was so bad, I posted this on Netflix:

What was Disney thinking when they made this? The only thing cute about it is the title. It is one horrible Christmas Santa cliche after another.

First, listen to the common sense rating. 6+ is a good start. Here is why:
1) People in this movie are mean. Young kids don't need to see this type of evil in the world.

2) Santa, beloved by children, gets hit by a car. The whole premise there was to have Santa lose his memory. Really Disney? You couldn't have just dropped a flower pot or something a little less horrific?!

3) The lady running the orphanage is a horrible copy of Ms. Hannigan from Annie. At one point, I was waiting for the orphans to break out into "Its a Hard Knock Life". But instead, the lady threw one of the children's toy...a doll...into the fire. Wow. Another nice call Disney.

4) I have a problem with children seeing ANY movie that questions the existence of Santa Claus. That is fine for when they are older and start to question it on their own. Hence, the common sense rating of 6+ just for that.

I have a 4.5 year old daughter. I wished I checked out the common sense rating before hand. She told me she didn't want to watch it and was asking why people were so mean. Luckily, I explained the whole concept of a "bad movie" to her and it wasn't real.

Despicable Me = 9 out of 10. Love it, watched it twice and once with out the kids in the end
Last Air Bender = 8 out of 10, pretty good, acting a little stiff and an obvious run at a follow up movie
Salt= 8 out of 10 good fight scenes,
The kids are all right = 5 out of 10. Good acting, not what I was expecting though, NOT a kids movie

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - 7/10 Very nutty, very stylized, very enjoyable.. My only problem was that I could never get completely absorbed in the universe.

Inception - 7/10 It was enjoyable when I watched it but it didn't have much repeat value for me for some reason.. I guess I was hoping for more complexity because of the hype but it was rather straightforward so there isn't much left of the story to take apart. I'll probably watch it later just for the visuals.

Harry Potter - 7/10 Yayyy! It followed the book quite a bit though it still cut out the scenes with the Dursleys.. The book gave them an almost proper conclusion and that never seems to happen in the movies. At least it wans't butchered like HBP.. *shudder* I think I was grinning throughout the movie..
