Hurt Locker- intense ... intent inaccurate
Inglorious Bastards - my favorite ... Tarantino is a genius!
Hard Candy - Ellen Page is terrific ... appropriate revenge!
District 9 - docu- style works ... social disorder!
next film - Anvil |

An Education: 4.5/10
Predictable as just about anything can be.
Ordinary girl meets cultured man. Girl has dreams of life with man. Man is rich and sophisticated, gives girl all shes wanted. Man is already married. Girl finds out. Girl = upset. Girl goes to University. Girl lives happily ever after.
What the hell... this has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes? Honestly, a 6 year old could have written this in terms of plot, it just quite simply stinks that these types of movies still get written.
The reason I didn't give this a lower score was because of the acting. Peter Saarsgard has a better English accent than I do and performs admirably in this movie. I was a bit sceptical at his ability to be a male lead in a movie since I've only ever seen him in quasi-supporting roles in Garden State and Jarhead, where he has been good at filling some screen, but never really what I would call 'magnetic'. Still, he did a nice job... he reminds me of Jude Law, except not an egotistical ass.
But special praise is reserved for the girl in this film. Her character is pretty 2d and blah but her acting is superb. She had crap to work with but she produced gold. |

Hurt locker
aside from the politics the film revolves around, the acting was terrible, sort of overacted to look realistic the only thing i regret is wasting two hours of my life on this academy award winning movie!
Michael Moore's "Capitalism : A Love story"
Michael Moore still got it! his ability to portray the tragedy of people who got the bad side of the deal in America is intense and quite heart breaking. but he always gets you laughing at his shenanigans!
fantastic Mr. Fox
Simply fantastic and ingenious, a must see for al the family! |

Law Abiding Citizen - 5/10 - excessive sadism and sentimentality mixed with unbelievable plot; but a couple of shocks and good performances.
Ponyo - 7/10 - It's shorter than Miyazaki's last few movies, with fewer pleasures for adults, but for his fans it's still Miyazaki.
Ils (Them) - 6/10 - French, from 2006 -- suspenseful and a bit depressing |

Watchmen 10/10
Very violent and a bit campy; but what a treat to the eyes it is. I can't believe I hadn't seen this film before now. |

You definitely should read the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Paul. Whilst the film is, in many ways, quite faithful to the book it in no way reaches the sophistication, art and depth of it. |

The White Ribbon 9/10
Beautifully composed scenes. Haneke's most refined work to date, which says a lot considering Funny Games and The Piano Teacher.
Shutter Island 8/10
I worship at the altars of Martin Scorsese and Robert Richardson, but some of the visual effects compositing (ferry ride, jeep ride with the warden) left alot to be desired. Overall an excellent movie that I will watch many more times.

Son of Rambow. Sweet and treacly, family-oriented, overdone, silly, and a pleasure to lose oneself in. I am happy to report that I cried at the predictable and benign ending. |

Alice In Wonderland. 3/10
Yuck. It was just so horribly, and vacuously, twisted and changed from the source material. I can just hear the executives muttering about how to turn this "nonsense" into something the public will understand and swallow. Let's give em a bit of a quest and that "good vs evil" stuff always sells well... and a big monster to battle at the end. They wanted another 'Lord Of The Rings' or 'Chronicles Of Narnia' or 'Harry Potter' not something that rambles along meaninglessly and wonderfully impossibly just for the sake of it... Making it as a sequel of sorts was not necessarily a bad idea, it's just that it was so obviously and shamelessly engineered to fit a format of what childrens films are meant to be today and that format is almost the antithesis of why the Alice books are so amazing.
The Mad Hatter isn't bloody Aragon and the very last thing Wonderland needs is a f**king oracle!
Yuck yuckity yuck!
I think i may have to go re-read the books, or watch the Jan Svankmajer 'Alice', to re(de)- align my inner Alice after that travesty.

Bolt 7/10 - Predictable, but great kid movie and enough of the typical little adult humor bits to keep me entertained.

Just saw The Hurt Locker and can't say I was impressed enough with it for Best Picture. It wasn't bad, but it only had three characters to develop in two hours and it barely did that. |

He was a quiet Man
Christian Slater. William H Macy
7/10
Enjoyable, Christian Slater plays a disgruntled office worker who daydreams of blowing up the office and his co-workers but fate has other ideas...

Alice in Wonderland - what a disappointment. Visually - of course - it was great. Everything else sucked. The script was horrific - I mean, really - Lewis Carroll wrote outstanding, interesting, weird, fantastical stories around Alice. They couldn't have used that? Instead the plot was forced and stupid. The acting was in rhythm with the storyline: sluggish. The music was dirge-like to the point of complete distraction from the actual movie. As you may tell, I did not like it. 3(for the costumes and technicals)/10.
Leaves of Grass - with acting genius Edward Norton. Definitely different for an American film. I loved it. The storyline moves you along without revealing what's going to happen. Therefore, I was sort of on the edge of my seat the whole time. 9/10.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians - it's fluffy, but I got a kick out of it. As a mythology geek I found some of the interpretations of the gods smart and funny. It's an easy movie definitely worth watching. 8/10 |

I totally agree. Watched it after the Oscars to see what the fuss was about and found it - eh. Probably enjoyed heightened popularity due to the war and its emotional ramifications. Or something. |

The Hangover - 8/10 , Had a funny story line. Slightly crude in a spot or two, but very little. Not an obvious storyline. :)
The Haunting - 1/10 What a waste of the time we actually watched.

Per ahmadbaara's review I saw Fantastic Mr Fox. Enormous amounts of fun. Totally loved it. It's smart and funny. Love the documentary-type format. 10/10
