Avitar 3D (yes Virginia, there is a 2D version in theaters). 9/10 Extremely enjoyable if you go into it without preconceived notions. GREAT execution.

Avatar 5/10 The plot and acting were cringe worthy.. I think I knew what was coming next every step of the way and I wanted to walk out every time they were panning over some landscape and some random character was oohing. Even the action was predictable which was supposed to be the fun part :S Boring and Disappointing.

Sherlock Holmes 7.5/10 I did not expect it to be good at all and I didn't expect them to portray Sherlock's character in a fashion that I could enjoy.. He was as nutty and as eccentric as I imagined him to be.. While bits of it were predictable they did them in a way I could enjoy watching. I am so going over my Sherlock Holmes books again.

The Hurt Locker: 7.5/10

Good movie. Not great, but solid. It's nice seeing a no-name cast (until now) turn in performances like these and shows you don't need 'a name' to make a movie and make it well. The only 'star' I saw in the move was Kate from Lost for all of about 7 minutes.

This film is much better than The Road ;)

Paranormal Activity - 6/10. Kind of silly, and frustrating at the end when the dialogue became hard to understand, but it actually creeped me out -- in the way that lying in the dark staring at a dark doorway will creep you out if you wait long enough for something to appear.

Happy, Texas - 7/10. Broad, lightweight comedy, but both Steve Zahn and William H. Macy are so good in their own ways.

PS: Tez, I appreciated your review of The Road. When I heard they were making it into a movie I couldn't believe it (I've read the book twice).

Larry, I'm glad you read all the review! I was a tad verbose.

If you haven't seen the movie, then don't, it will do nothing but piss you off.

And you were right about Paranormal Activity, not the brainiest of movies, but certainly frightening.

I can't say that I was all that impressed with plot and character development, and yes, in ways it was more than a little predictable... however the CGI was positively stunning. It was definitely the first time (for me) that CGI achieved true "suspension of disbelief." I found myself immersed, with a few exceptions. I also found the 3D surprisingly well-done. A little over-emphasized in some scenes, but overall I think it added to the experience. Overall, a fantastic escape from a mundane winter Saturday afternoon.
Things I wish were done better:
- Please oh please, let's stop casting the corporate giant as "Evil Incarnate." A little
- Unobtanium?? O come on, a little more though here...
- Colonel whats-his-name, we may see him in 3D, but his character is still 2-dimensional ;-)

Angels and Demons... 5/10 Dialogue is uninspired, Hank's character loves to spew every piece of information stored in his pointy little head, if only to prove his incredible smartness. :) Not as snappy as DaVinci code. The sets are pretty cool though.

I recently saw "The Road". It was bleak, depressing, and demoralizing. It was one of the better movies I've seen all year. Kodi Smit-McPhee was brilliant. If Oscars actually meant something, he would have been nominated for Best Actor (and would win).

It just made me mad they took awesome source material and turned it into crap. Best actor? For what?
